Insurance Hold up

Recommended Posts

Hello all!! My insurance requires 12 consecutive months of physician supervised diet and excercise. I completed my year in July of 2012. My insurance has denied my three times because they see no risk versus benefit. They denial letters continue to say, in so many words, that I am a healthy fat person. I am currently on appeal number four. Has anyone else had to jump through soo many hoops to get approved???

P.E.I.A

Did you ever get approved? I have PEIA too.

I also have PEIA and after meeting every condition in their policy, I’ve also been denied basically because my co-morbid conditions are well controlled with pharmaceuticals and CPAP therapy. I’m in the first phase of my first appeal. PEIA is completely in opposition to what is best for its subscribers. They’re going to have a fight on their hands with the help of the State Insurance Commission and an attorney, if necessary. Anyone who is in this process...keep it up!

YAY!! I am so excited for you. Congrats! I hope to be there as well in the near future. I’ll keep it up, as long as it takes. I’m glad to know they HAVE approved people and covered it. That gives me hope. As the benefits decline and costs increase, I worry they will stop covering it all together.

Good to know, as well! I have diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea. You’d think they’d be ready to help me get off the meds and machines...will save them money in the long run!

Yea, I’m definitely not satisfied with how things have happened with PEIA over the past months. Keep fighting!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
