Still Tired and Weak 5 days post op

Recommended Posts

I am 5 days post op and doing great. No nausea. No vomiting. No surgical pain. I still have the gas discomfort but I understand that's normal and it is subsiding. I am still feeling very weak and tired. I'm up and fixing my food, walking the gas off, and reading or knitting but I am getting exhausted and have to lay down for a nap. Did anyone else experience this kind of tiredness?

You just had major surgery!!!Maje sure that you are taking in enough liquids. I think that if you buy some Special K Protein Drink, it might give you some energy. It is clear liquid, if you are still on that. Drink some broth, too! Best wishes! Karen

I was doing pretty good after 1wk and decided to run some errands and then it hit me. It was the beginning of second week and it only lasted 3-4 days, naps were in order.

I've read quite a few threads about ppl feeling the same way, so I would say it's normal.

Be sure you are keeping yourself hydrated and if this doesn't pass in a few days, call your Dr.

I had that extreme fatigue and weakness after my original band surgery, too! It was a lot worse than the pain or the gas. My worst day was the seventh day, and things improved dramatically after that day! Good luck!

I stayed out of work for 3 weeks. The body needs time to heal. Depending on the type of work you do, I recommend you rest your body. I also stayed out long enough until I got at least to the mushy stage. I walk daily and if I went back to work during The liquid stage it would have made me sick,

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
