why did you choose the band? How much weight did you lose?

Recommended Posts

I chose the band to have a physical consequence to my eating as hypothetical health threats are not motivation for me.

I chose the band over the others because it is removable and I did not want to be cut. In fact, I signed a paper that if he wasn't able to do the band laproscopically - he was to wheel me right back out of the operating room and abort the entire mission.

I've not lost as much as I should - but that is my fault. I am lazy and I like Cookies. The band did and continues to do it's part.

Is it common for surgeons to ask that? I have surgery on Tuesday. So, I suppose I should give that some thought.

After re-reading the statement, I misunderstood it initially. I get it now. :)

I chose the Band because I know of about 6 people who did the by pass and all got larger in about 5-10 years and they all blamed the surgery not themselves. I also did not want anything permanent and the Band can be removed if need be. Also you lose more slowly and when you are my age, 62, the skin hangs more, so slow loss means maybe! less hanging. I do have bingo arms and will need a Tummy Tuck, but I will see in about 1-2 years. I love the Band and hope you will also. Good luck.

As everyone else has stated, I chose the band because it was the least scary to me. My mom had gastric bypass and lost 100 lbs. She had no serious problems but now at 54 years old she is severely anemic and cannot take certain meds- all because of her absorbtion issues.

So while i'm happy for her, and she doesn't really complain, that was just not something I was willing to do.

OF COURSE i'm terribly scared that i'll have band issues later on, but the band issues that people have don't even touch a candle to the severity of the issues the other WLS's pose.

I have been banded for 6 months and have lost 50 lbs

but I actually work my @ss off to lose the weight.... Don't be fooled, the band is not magic

The band is another tool like exercise and proper dieting. You cannot be effective unless you join the other two with the surgery.

I am chosing the band because it is definitely less invasive. My mother had gastric bypass about two years ago. My mother has been in the worse health of her life. She messes up several outfits in a week. When she has to go. She cant hold her bowels and at one point she had to be hospitalized because she was so malnourished. The doctors were begging her to eat. Also my pcp didnt recommend the bypass for me. I am 260 5ft 8inches lapband was clearly my best option.

I had a cousin who had by pass over 25 years ago and the doctor slipped and she had the worse smelling gas in the world. She died from cancer, not the by pass. She also gained back all her weight. Her daughter did by pass about 6-9 years ago and she is getting fat again and told me her surgery failed. She is a RN and she knows it's her, deep down, that failed. She Snacks, has wine everyday and alcohol when she dines out. Her fault. You have use the Band as a tool and help it help you.

Good luck with your new life.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
