scared to eat

Recommended Posts

So I just came back from my 1st fill. I got 4cc's and I have read that a 4cc fill is pretty aggressive but I'm okay with that. I asked my doctor about the liquid diet following the fill n he said "I don't do that, go straight to your regular diet" I am scared because I see almost every patient here says their doc recommends the liquid diet. Anyone been told not to do it n has anyone had regular food after a fill? Thanks greatly appreciate all your responses.

Hi. My doc is the same. I normally eat straight after. If you are scared have a Soup or some mush of some description. Better safe than sorry I say. I do what I feel. Sometimes I am too scared to eat as well. I am waiting for my next fill & because I have quite a bit of fill in I will do a smoothie for lunch just to be safe.

I would not trust any doctor who told me I could eat right after a fill. That sounds nuts to me. But everyone is different I suppose. Maybe it will work for you. I just want to go on record that I advise against it. But I am not a doctor........

My Dr says 24 hrs, but I do what I feel comfortable with, like 48hrs and mushies a couple days.

Just start out slow and soft and work yourself into it.

I haven't had a fill and I am deff.no expert other than what I read on this forum daily. Just logic makes me think that if something was tightened around my delicate stomache I would want to wait at leas a full day or so, in case of swelling before eating any solid foods, but thats just my opinion.

Mine says liquids for 48 hours. But he also swears that Diet Coke and other carbonated drinks will not cause problems with band. (not right after a fill though). I say follow what your doc says.

Thank u all for the responses. So I had school last night as soon as I posted this n ended up drinking a 5oz Protein Shake before I left with 1/2 a scoop of Protein. I had no problem drinking it but one n one half hours later I was hungry. I took a banana with me n a Fiber bar so I ate the banana n had no problem. I didn't eat the fiber bar. Once I came home I tried to eat a chicken taco n suddenly felt really tight in my chest but I think I ate too fast n too much. I was so scared to have a stuck episode n not b able to get out of it but felt fine after about a minute. I stopped on the taco n ate 3/4 a cup of mashed potatoes n that went down fine. What a learning experience this has been. Maybe I'll just do mushies after a fill.

My doctor says liquids and soft type foods (mashed potatoes, tuna salad, soups....) for rest of day. I usually try to do it 24 hours. I usually add Protein Shakes in with mushies.

My doc says liquids and mushies for the rest of the day and then take it easy after that too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
