I was banded on Nov 16. Had my 3rd fill yesterday. The last couple of weeks I have been having a lot of slime when I eat. Does anyone know what causes this?

Too full and slime is backing up your esophagus. You may be over eating or need a slight unfill.

If you are not over eating, taking small bites, chewing really good, then more than likely you are too tight and need a small unfill. Don't wait, take care of it now, a tight band around the stomache is only going to cause major problems (including slips) down the road.....

Best wishes,

It can take many months of living with your band before you finally learn to eat right. If you are sliming on slider foods like lasagna, oatmeal, crackers, Soups then you are probably too tight. If you only slime when you eat solids then you may not be eating slow enough, chewing enough or taking small bites. Experiment with both and be your own judge or speak to your doc or nut.

Thanks everyone. I honestly don't think I am eating too much. I can barely get the 1/4-1/2 cup of food down they say to eat. They only put in 1 cc yesterday. My fills are pretty expensive, so unless I just absolutely have to go back for an unfilled I Don't want to. Been eating slowly, chewing, small bites...those is the first time I have really felt any kind of restriction. I don't know if it is really considered vomiting or nite. I "spit up" a lot of slime sometimes.

I used to get a lot of sliming at the beginning regardless of whether it was my first bite or fifth bite, I just think its the body's natural reaction to a foreign object and eating differently. The reason the body produces the mucous/ slim is to help push the food through especially if our bites are a bit to big. I rarely get it seven months out. The only time I get a bit of it is first thing in the morning from time to time but otherwise it's settled down considerably.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
