Thanks!! Getting scared!! Up until now everybody been telling me this is no big deal. Now I'm hearing how bad gas is after, just had coworker tell me he had hard time catching his breath after surgery & how horrible it was & the pain he had. Now I'm freaking out about going through process.

Not to worry! Everyone different on how they deal with discomfort. I had Gbypass 18 years ago and THAT was pain! Had my band put on in July in Mexico, they have me tramodol which is their equivalent to Vicodin. I walked through the border line 2 days after. Some of us also like a little "extra" med so we can get some well deserved rest. The had pains went away the more you get up and move. Just toot toot toot along... Well worth it!

I had roxicet - liquid Percocet - and it was great. I needed it for about a week but it was mostly just at night or first thing in the morning.

I had Lortab elixir and Phenergan, but I only needed Tylenol. I had a really easy recovery though.

Immediate release oxycodone and promethazine. Both very small and easy to swallow. Works great. Gas pains are bettered with walking.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
