Thinking of switching to a sleeve

Recommended Posts

I think your food choices may be it too. You are mentioning sandwiches and burritos, etc... tortillas and bread do not work for many of us. I will get stuck with both. So now if I want a burrito I have it without the tortilla. If I want a sandwich I can sometimes do it with a thin piece of a heavier bread like multigrain or if I toast it. Also you should try to focus on getting 3-4 ounces of Protein first, such as moist meat, lean ground meat, etc then veggies. Cut out the breads as it gives little to no nutrition and has more likelihood of getting stuck. You will get this figured out. Lastly, Jean McMillan who posted here earlier and Alex the founder of LBT each have books on the band. They may be helpful. Hang in there.

Perhaps if you cannot meet with the surgeon now $ you can meet with a nutrionist who works with banded patients. I think you would get a lot out of it or find a local support group.

I agree with new dawn. My doctor notes from my hospital says no bread rice or Pasta (which you mentioned all of those) for three months. I have also read on my hospital notes no red meat, no raw vegetables or fruit for the 1st three months. I have seen my doctor twice since I was banded on Jan second n every time he tells me "no rice, no potatoes, no pasta, no tortillas." I know. I feel like I'm on a diet but the band gave me that extra motivation I needed. If you have an address I can mail copies to you or a fax number. We are all here to help!

Yeah I agree with the others my doctor says no rice, Pasta, or bread because of it likely getting stuck. I am able to eat anything else and have never gotten stuck. I've been banded since may 2012. Have you tried just eating moist meat and some kind of veggie with no bread rice or pasta?

I too was banded in Mexico I was having the same shoulder pain after every time I ate it was horrible. I went for my follow up here in the states. The surgeon told me that the doctors in Mexico place the band higher on the esophagus so u don't have as big of a pouch. I have a lot of stuck episodes if I don't pay attention to how fast I'm eating. There are a lot of foods I have to avoid. I have lost 35 pounds so far. I don't eat til after 11 am. I watch my portions. Sometimes if I eat a heavy meal or try and push it on my portion size I still get the shoulder pain not very often anymore.

At six weeks post op you should just now be on your second week of whole foods. Do you have a Fluid in your band? Have you called your doctor? Does he know your issues? I think rushing to change to a different surgery when you are still healing from this one is not a good idea. You havent given much information about your eating. When did you start solid foods. You may have severe swelling from getting stuck so much and need to give your stomach a rest with liquids.< /p>

There are as many post op diet progression as there are bariatric surgeons...many have a 14 day progression from liquids to introduction of solids. The OP should be following what her doctor directed.

Do you mean higher on the stomach? Because the band would be useless if placed anywhere on the esophagus.

That's just the way they do it in Mexico. According to my dr here they use to do it like that in the US but now they use bigger bands further down. I don't think there is anything u can do about it u just have to learn what u can and can't eat and eat very slow. Set a timer and make ur one cup portion last 30 minutes. I had my ha my surgery with dr Almanza

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
