Does decaf dehydrate you?

Recommended Posts

Being the coffee (and decaf) lover that I am, I was questioning whether Decaf dehydrates you (I also drink a lot of Water and Crystal Light) because I've heard so many people say it does. Here's what I found....

If you are drinking plenty of Water, then decaf/coffee shouldn't be a problem in terms of dehydration.

Just be aware of any calories from milk/cream/sugar that you add to your coffee.

Good luck.

I drink coffee all sorts of ways. Decaf / Regular / Latte (not frozen) with skim milk / Iced, black, with mocha (on days where I budget in the calories and carbs / same with McD's SF caramel, without cream / At home with the FF 1/2 + 1/2 that my NUT suggests.

I used to like the frozen type coffee's, but not only do they not deserve to be called "coffee", they are wickedly bad for you!

I just love coffee. I love chocolate covered coffee Beans, or naked Beans. Long Live the Bean!

Oh yeah, I use Equal, not sugar.

I know it will not dehydrate me. I just wanted to post the link that discusses all the points ya'll have come to and more. But I don't know if anyone is reading it. Many people do not understand (and I don't know it all) the pro's and con's of decaf/coffee. And I know many people on here that love their coffee! Such good folk!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
