How long before it kicks in?

Recommended Posts

I am 8 weeks post op, and got a 9ml band with 5 mls in it, I had my second fill yesterday. Can i feel a difference....Yes...but I am very aware that it could go at any time. I have only lost 16 lbs within this time. did other people take some time before you found yourself and the band, before you worked well together? I am struggling with eating right and with the drinking thing, not being able to drink with a meal...although I am getting better with it.

Hi Angie,

I was banded 2.5 weeks ago and have no restriction. Had I not had the operation and still feel twinges of pain, I would not even know I had a band! Because I have to wait 6-8 weeks to have my first fill, I am using this time as a challenge to eat according to the post-op plan and "learn" hunger satisfaction and how that feels.

Since you have had 2 fills already and you're doing well with your weight loss, keep doing what you're doing and pay attention to the subtle changes you're feeling now. For some people who have posted here, it seems it can take a week or more before a fill "kicks in" and you feel restriction.

Happy Easter Everyone. My band date is getting closer 4-25.The only reason I am nervous is how will I know what I can eat and not eat. Is it just trial and error? I can make it through the liquids and the mushies but what about when you can have solids. I love my fruit, chicken and fish.Could some of you please re-assure me and tell me some things you eat. This is the greatest site.

Hey I always make sure I reply to these posts because I remember asking them myself 100s of times. I have the VG band and took approximately 5 months to feel restriction with 9 fills. The first 7 or so I felt restriction which didnt kickin for 2 weeks and dissapated over the next week or so. They never lasted and I was sure I was going to be the person that this didnt work for. Well I was wrong. I found restriction on the 9th fill at 9.6ml. I havent had a fill for a good 5 months or so and still have my restriction.

Also until I found the sweet spot I really struggled....even put some weight back on. The weight loss came when the restriction came. It hasnt been fast like some but I am really happy with how it has been. Heck I plateaued for 3 months through Christmas and I was happy with that because I was maintaning someting I have never been able to do in my life.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
