I everyone I was banded on the 13/1 and so far including my pre op diet I have lost 17kg (just under 40 pounds) I am finding though that I am having no issues what so ever with food. I spoke to my Drs dietitian through the week and asked of I could move onto the pureed food stage early which she said was fine but suggested things like eggs and chicken, which I have had and 1 cup per meal fills me but I am just feeling worried that something is wrong with the band. I am also really struggling to remember not to drink while eating, this is a major habit of mine. Anyway looking for a bit of experience

The hardest thing that I have to keep remembering is not to drink while eating too. It's hard to stop 20 minutes before you eat and wait 20 minutes after you finish. I really have to remind myself, over and over....

You're not supposed to have issues or reflux. Plus, you haven't had any fills, so it's highly doubtful your band will be noticeable at all right now.

As far as the band itself, I think maybe this will help you better understand it, what it's supposed to do, and what it's not supposed to do: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Ok, I guess I have read a lot of things about people vomiting etc after moving onto the pureed stage, and whilst 1 cup of food fills me at a meal I have no trouble at all eating that one cup and I was expecting to. I was looking for other people's experiences at this stage post op

Thanks anyway

Well if you get those issues then you should be concerned. Having a lapband should be pain free eating, no reflux, unfortunanley stuck episodes can happen but that is usually rectified by taking much smaller bites and working out what foods you can and can't tolerate. If you develop reflux then there is a problem and you get it sorted out with your carers.

Things may change as you get more fills.

Jayde - I was banded 12/21. No issues here either. I could eat anything and I do mean anything. No stuck issues no reflux. However I'm at about 3/4 cup of food and I'm quite comfy. As for me I like it this way so I'm going to try to hold off on getting a fill. I don't want to get stuck or worry about vomiting or reflux. I'm sticking with the high Protein and the weight is coming off just fine. So far my will power is holding up and I'm going to take advantage of that while I can. That way I can enjoy everything I'm eating and the fills will be there when and if I need them. I think you are doing ok. From what I've read on these boards the issues don't start to come about until you start getting fills. Enjoy it while you can! :-)

I was banded on November 6th an have not had one issue yet. No vomiting, stuck episodes, reflux, nothing. I just am not that hungry throughout the day and I can go longer in between meals.

agree with above

no problems should be happening if used properly

trust me, you dont want bad things to happen as i dont either so i follow the rules..

stop reading the complications as yes it does happen, but not always

the ones who dont have any issues are the ones who should post more..i wish

the ones most vocal neg are the ones who divert off course mostly..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
