IN NEED OF A BUDDY/MENTOR IN INDIANA!!

Recommended Posts

Hello and first of all thank you for clicking on my posting. I know that there is a lot of them out there and taking the time to read mine is greatly appreciated.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I am currently 28 year old female. I am divorced but I am blessed to have that special someone in my life for the past two years. I do have a 10 year old daughter that my world revolves around. I am currently living in Lafayette, Indiana and have for the past almost seven years and I work in the special education classroom at my local high school.

Now for the “fun” stuff: I currently weigh 344 pounds… Yeah, I do not like that number either but that is what it is… When I first started seeing my endocrinologist over a year ago I was at 350 then after being prescribed phentermine I was able to get down to 310. But unfortunately, depression once again set in and once I went back on antidepressants I had to go off of the phen… So that is why I am back up to the 344…

I am hoping that I will be able to get back down to where I was 10 years ago (which was still high but it is still almost 200 less than what I am at now…

Hopefully this helps with making your decision to buddy up with me and be my guide during this scary process…

Thank you for looking!

Shirley

Hi, welcome to the site. I have found so much great information, the good and the band. The key is to do your research and make sure you are comfortable with your decision. I had surgery in Indianapolis 5/21/12. It was the best decisions I ever made for myself. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I have been looking into being banded for several years now and I feel that now is the best time to do it. I would have had it done last year except I was misinformed by someone at my insurance agency telling me I wasn't covered when it is.

Well, I can't live in the past, only the present and look towards the future

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
