I am so happy to find this site. I want this surgery so bad that I am in the process of finding the financing for this procedure. I just got on my husband's insurance, but I am not sure if they cover this. Keep me in your prayers.

Hi and Welcome

You will love this site. There is so much fantastic information and advice here.

I know the insurance thing is frustrating. I live in Jacksonville, Florida, and no insurance company here is paying for the band. But, my hubby said he wants me here to live a long happy life with him, so we are going private pay too. We ended up refinancing our home and cashing out with the money for the surgery.

Good luck to you.

Welcome and I wish you good luck getting your band soon. I am a selfpay who got banded 3-29-06. I use to live in St Augustine, Fl. so we were neighbors. Now I live in TX. Well, just be patient. It took awhile for me to get going. Stelis2

Hi everyone! My husbands insurance refused me due to not having 12 months of MEDICALLY SUPERVISED weight loss efforts, including regular meeting with a nutritionist, and a medically supervised exercise program. We live in a rather rural area, and this wasn't something I was prepared to try to do for the next year, so we opted to go self pay. In the end, I received a settlement from a car accident I had been injured in, and we used that. Like my husband pointed out, if I had been trying to do the 12 month thing for insurance, that accident that laid me up would have ruined it, it would have interupted my consecutive 12 months! I am being banded one week from tomorrow!! (04/24/06). I am so excited it keeps me going through this damn pre-op diet, while I help prepare Easter Dinner!!! It will be worth it! Good Luck to all of you working to get a banding date!!!

Kat

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
