I am new to this site and hope to have my band in a couple of weeks. I will be going to Mexico because I have such limited coverage with BCBS

insurance.

How are you doing? Feeling good? Weight loss so far?

Hey there Robin! Won't be long before you are banded. Are you getting excited? I'm a month out now and am so happy I had this done. I've lost 25 lbs since surgery and a total of 36 lbs including pre-op diet! I feel really good these days. : ) Will you be in Mexico a long time? Do you have to lose any weight pre-op before they'll band you? Hope to keep in touch. Angie

Hi angie-

Did you get your band in CT? I'm a traveling nurse and am moving to CT this July and need a good doc for fills and checkups. I got my band in Arizona so i'm not worried about a doc not taking me under his wing but I would like a good reference. Thanks nora

Good morning! I'm in CT too. I was banded on 9/4/08 by Dr. Neil Floch @ Norwalk Hospital. www.endtheweight.com. They were/are a great practice. Always availabe when I need them!

Okay.. so I have a small concern and wonder if this happened to anyone else...

On the preop Optifast diet I lost 12 pounds and another 5 in the week after getting banded. But now I've lost nothing since then. I'm walking everyday.. drinking lots of Water.. can't figure it out. All I can think is that it's too much milk in the Protein drinks and its slowed my system??. Maybe once veggies are added and things start moving I'll start showing a loss again. I'm trying not to worry too much about it at this point. My main goal really is just to make sure I am getting enough Protein and liquid at this point. I think the rest will just fall into place. Any thoughts?

Hi! this happened to me also. you will begin to lose again. I was banded on 9/9/08. I lost 20 pounds altogether so far. The first week, I lost 16 of them, then I lost nothing, then 1.5 the next week and so on. your body thinks it is in starvation mode, and is holding on to all it has, but it will give eventually.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
