Chicken fried rice...

Recommended Posts

First craving... chicken fried rice from the buffet next door! I work in a tanning salon and on my four hour shift I sit and smell amazing Chinese food! Although I am worried about eating rice, I know it expands in your stomach. I am 11 days banded, down 11 pounds and eating soft foods and Soup very well. Do y'all think I can eat some rice? Anyone have problems with rice?

Rice isn't exactly a soft food so I'd wait until you're back on solids. Plus, 11 days banded isn't very long. I'd give yourself more time to adjust.

Just FYI, Chinese fried rice is usually loaded in fat and MSG. If you are going to have it, be sure to track it in your daily calories or you'll way too easily go over your daily allowance.

As far as rice itself, I eat brown rice all the time without a problem.

Also, not that you cannot ever give into a craving, but being strong will get easier each time you are able to not give into the craving. It's empowering when you can pass something by knowing you were stronger than the temptation. You can do this. It really does get easier as time passes.

Dani

It is too soon to try things.

Stick to the diet dr gave you. I can not eat rice but some people can. Eventually you can try it but not yet.

Good Luck

Wendy

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
