No WLS for me...

Recommended Posts

So I went in for my EGD yesterday and there was no hernia. I am 32 BMI and would be self pay. i was hoping to get the band if 1/2 would be paid due to the hernia. No hernia equal paying the full 10k. So now after thinking it all through I can't see paying the 10k for 50lbs to loose. Part of me feels that would be selfish to my family. I've been doing the pre op diet and lost 10lbs in 7days so I'm hoping I can just stick to it. That's never been my problem though, I always manage to gain it back plus some. I guess I'm just a little bummed about it all right now but I'm going try and keep my willpower going.

Good luck to you all!

I definately think its a personal deccission. I know others in your situation that have gotten the band because they keep gaining it back. I also no others who didnt have a lot to lose but were approved because of medical conditions. I wish you the best of luck!

I'm sorry to hear this. Honestly, I'm concerned about the same thing. I go in for my EGD on Tuesday and it will be a deal breaker for me as well. I wish you the best of luck.

Everyone has to do what is best for themselves. I too was self pay because my insurance didnt think it was medically necessary.... I was a 55 BMI.

The band is alot about changing your habits...something I didnt do after any of my diets... If you can do that you are home free. Best of luck.

The previous posters are right about lifestyle change, but how many times have we all heard that before. There are those who do manage to do that and I pray you are one of them.

Sorry about your disappointment, things will workout, they always do.

I think it would still be good for you to hang out here for support on your weight loss journey. There's still a lot of good advice and great idea's.

I wish you the best. Also, I know weight watchers meetings seem to work well for many to change habits and learn healthier eating habits. Maybe that would work for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
