Best Tuna salad I have ever had...

Recommended Posts

I think that is what I have been kinda confused about. Do we measure out our food and just eat what is measured; or do we measure out our food and just what ever we get in 20 minutes is what we get?

you (or i will use me as an example as that is all i know)

i measure my meals to a cup (Protein the most/veggie/fruit)..i stop at 20 min (even if i am not finished or still hungry)..i do eat very slow, wee bites..

i know for a fact i can or could eat all day if i nibbled here and there so from what my dr's told me and from what i have experienced, stop at 20 min.

and from what i know, the more filling Protein foods i eat, the longer between meals i can go and that is what lets me know my band is working.

Just curious, is oatmeal good to eat?

absolutely :)

i add raisins to mine when i eat it

very filling (it is to me) and that is what i go for

so many variations and brands and tastes

best to buy other than a boxed item

but if you can only do that, better than a biscuit from mcdee's any day in my book

I had regular instant oats every morning on my pre-op diet. I am not sure I would eat them right now just after surgery. They seem like they might irritate an already irritated and swollen stomach pouch..

I am sure I will add them back in once I am out of the healing process. I love oats

I have had steel cut oatmeal, with a teaspoon of butter and a tablespoon of real maple Syrup every morning this week.

How many weeks post-op are you Terry? I am only 8 days and was kinda scared to add them to my soft food diet for fear of not going thru well.

I was banded 1/7/13 and I am in my mushie stage. I make a pot of the steel cut oats at the beginning of the week, and then each morning I take half a cup for my Breakfast. Right now, I will add a little hot Water to make them a the proper consistency. That and I follow the rules and eat them very slowly, making sure they are throughly chewed. The steel cut oats have a different texture than rolled oats and I have come to like them more.

Steel cut oats are great and have more nutritional value than rolled outs.

(remember to try and stop eating at 20 minutes)

once the swelling goes down and the appetite returns, you will need to remember to stop bc eating slow is what we do but if we keep on eating we can eat alot...

interesting carolinagirl. that's why I weighed out the food because I have to know when to stop...I don't have that 'I feel full' feeling right now...no fills yet. So I portioned out one pouch of tuna which is 2 1/2 oz. and ate it all. the nutritionist told me to eat until I was not hungry and I told the skinny b***h (LOL) that if I could stop when I was satisfied, I wouldn't have a weight problem to begin with. I know from reading alot of posts that some folks calorie count, others weigh portions and others can just know when enough is enough. this journey and process seems to be so individualized that I think it comes down to doing what feels right and is working for you. thanks so much for your input and everyone else's. I'm so glad I found this site. The info and personal stories have been an enormous help.

I am new post op 16 days out and still on full liquids because thats the program. What is a soft stop? I am allowed to eat instant grits and can eat a cup before feeling uncomfortable. How on earth do you get 1000 calories in. in a day like the doc wants?

Once you get off of full liquids and start on more solid food you will get more calories in. I would not rush things. You will get there. As long as you are not hungry I would say you are ok.

I lost about 20 lbs. when I was on full liquids.

I will try and answer your question to a soft stop. For me when I've eaten approx 1 cup of food I hiccup, that is my trigger to stop eating. Some experience watery eyes, runny nose and like me some hiccup. That is a soft stop to let you know you better stop or else it will all come back up if you eat too much. Anyone else chime in for other advise. Hope this helps.

ok now I understand, its your trigger that lets you know to stop eating before it makes you stop lol So far at least with the pudding and yogurt or grits that I am allowed to eat I feel full so i stop. This runny stuff I seem to be able to eat about 3/4c. I really appreciate you explaining soft stop. It's important to know.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
