so sick of protein shakes!

Recommended Posts

Today starts post-op week 2 for me and i couldn't be more thrilled....that is thrilled to have something else beside a Protein Shake, which i am so SICK of now! I can now have dannon light and fit greek yogurt and Tomato Soup. This week is pretty much the same as last week of liquids with those two additions but my palet and stomach were both delighted to enjoy some much needed variety today! I would rather eat yogurt all day then have another Protein shake ...and i just might do that!

on a different note, i have zero energy. Anybody else experience this? I feel like someone has zapped the life out of me. I went to bed at 845pm last night and woke up at 630am and felt too lifeless to go to work today. Could it be the low calories that have me dragging like this?

Yes, let's face it, you're not sustaining on very much right now. I remember when I was on liquids post op and I had a lot of dizziness, headaches, crankiness, and fatigue.

I know you're sick of the Protein shakes but right now you really need them. They're your best source of Protein and protein really helps keep your strength up. One you're onto real foods again you never have to have another protein shake again, but right now, you do need them.

Hang in there, you're doing great and it'll get a lot easier.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
