Weight watchers and the band

Recommended Posts

Has anyone followed the weight watchers program after getting the band? Just curious if it worked out.

I tried ww in the past. Wasn't really ready and didn't loose much weight. However, I think their eating plan is very sensible and the meetings motivational. Also, there is something about that weekly weigh in that is motivating. I would give it a try if you think it might help.

Here is my 2 cents worth..... Lapband "way of life", "diet" what ever term you want to put on it or Weight Watchers either one will work or it won't work totally dependent on the person's committment to the plan.

If you commit to getting your Protein, Water, and keep your calories at your doctor/nutritionist limit then you are going to lose weight. If you commit and follow the WW diet plan you will lose weight.

The person just has to find what is going to work best for them from this day forward, not just this month or the next 6 months. WW works for a lot of people, but they often gain the weight back because they stop attending meetings and eating the WW way.

Weight loss is all about the committment and the "want" power to stick to it.

sure if you want too, anything to help you understand food.

but if you use the tool the dr gave you along with the instructions and eat good Protein filled foods in the allotted amounts, really no need to follow a (diet).....def can say you the $11 per month fee to use them (i tried them also once and they are great) but give the band a chance...

Personally I do not get the point of joining a diet program when I have the band, my NUT's and my drs orders to follow, a calories tracker on my phone and my own will power to be successful... I dont need to complicate it....

But thats just me...

I had gone to WW a few times so just after I got the band I Used there methoid modified of course. I then graduated to the band life and tracking it and it works..all good eating health plans are the same so work what gives u the most support to keep you forcus on your goal.

I'm with everyone else here. If you follow the band guidelines and stick to 1000 calories a day, the weight will fall off. Whether you stick to your WW point allowance or calorie allowance, you'll lose. The main thing is changing the way we view food. If you think WW can help, join, but try sticking to the band guidelines first.

Wozzicat,

I was banded in 2008 and just joined Weight Watchers. My band and my habits haven't been a slam dunk for weight loss like others seem to experience. I went to my first WW meeting today (since like 2007) and I felt so good going there. My leader is this amazing lady, who I already really like. The ladies in the meeting were supportive, and I even ran into a dance teacher I used to have, which put a smile on my face. I live 4 hours away from my surgeons office and every time I leave there I do not feel positive. I think WW is going to give me the local support I need to be successful. I just need to modify their eating plan a little for portion size and tell myself it is okay if I don't eat all the points every day. For example, today it is almost 8:00pm and I've only eaten 12 of my 30 points. I think this is because I focus on fruits and veggies which have a 0 point value.

Anyway, if you aren't getting good support from your surgeon, I recommend a nutritionist (some people on here swear by it), finding another surgeon for after-care, or WW meetings (not just online).

-Hilary

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
