First fill, now shoulder pain...

Recommended Posts

I had my first full yesterday of 2cc and am on liquids. But all of a sudden my left shoulder is killing me. It hurts more when I breath. Anyone else had this problem?

Left shoulder pain is common side effect with the band. Try a heating pad, if that doesn't help, you might want to get some of the fill removed. Best of luck, hope it resolves on its own.

I get that shoulder pain when I am eating too much (it's a sign to stop) or when I'm stuck, or I have not chewed food enough and it is having problems going down. It sometimes passes through and I instantly feel the shoulder pain go away. Make sure you are chewing small bites, and that you are chewing them enough. I have found that I do better with that if I am standing up. Hope if gets better for you.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I had not even eaten when the pain started. It lasted all day, but since Thursday I have not gotten it again. I am guessing it came from getting the fill the day before. I had never had a fill before (banded nov.19). Thank you for responding.

not a problem. It could also be gas. I get those gas pains there from time to time and it usually is felt when I breath in deeply too. I have never had it from a fill, but I suppose it could be coming from that, but not sure why.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
