I had the 6mth supervised diet and at first I was disappointed, but looking back it was a blessing.

There's a lot to learn about the band, a lot thats sometimes not covered in seminars and sometimes too much too fast and you forget.

But after 7mths of being on these boards everyday gave me the best education. Even ppl not doing well can teach you something.

The time goes by really quick, so take advantage of it.

Best wishes!

yep...me too. I had everything required done right away and had to just wait for the 6 months to pass...time went so slow.

I agree with Maddy....READ UP and learn as much as you possibly can. I would suggest waiting to go the dietician closer to surgery time so all is fresh in your mind. These forums are very helpful too.

It is not easy and still is not. I am a fresh bandster yet...not yet 3 months and the weightloss is very very slow. While I am happy with the 32 lbs I have lost...it is slow and I am hungry all the time...YET anyway. hoping some help when my next fill comes around. I knew this was going to be hard but I guess I was picturing it would be different than it is and was also expecting some help from the band by this time which as of yet I have none what so ever... but it will come...hopefully soon!

Good Luck to you...time will go faster than you think!

I had to do it and I loved it. I embraced it and actually didn't have my mind fully made up about the surgery until after I was approved.

I lost so much weight during the 6mo that I disqualified myself - let's hear it for sleep apnea that saved the day and got me approved after all!

Use the 6 months to read, talk, research, and PRACTICE. If you have drank pop all your life - now is the time to wean yourself off. Practice the 15-30 chews per bite. Practice the no drinking before, during, or after your meals. Pick one thing each week to make a habit before your surgery and you will have a MUCH easier time and greater success.

Good luck!

Funny....I had to take the 6 month diet also...BUT I was told it was because my insurance co. needed it in my record that I had undergone the 6 month Physician supervised diet, and in that I failed....therefore WLS is indicated.....

My word that diets didn't work...had to be documented as such by a Dr.......

I did not learn anything I did not know, or try, before with any other of the dozens of diets I have tried, and failed at.....

Also, as with any diet, I did good at first, then began to cheat, then utterly failed by the time 6 months rolled around.....

That is weird how it's different by region. I have BCBS Federal (Kansas City) and I only had to do 3 months worth of PCP supervised diet plus one dietician and one psych eval.

I have BCBS of TN and the coordinator of the weight loss center told me the same thing. I thing during that time we will learn to eat better and exercise. Sorry I did not have any better news, I am just glad they pay for it, I will jump all the hoops they want <_<

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
