Cream Soup on liquids post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow bandsters!

I'm 5 days post-op and I'm dying of hunger! Lol not really, but I'm seeking something more substantial than the broths, shakes, yogurt and milk I've been living on since Monday. I am allowed "strained low-fat cream soups" so I am looking for suggestions! I'm preparing for a trip to the grocery store tonight so what do you recommend? I'm not very familiar with cream Soups so input is appreciated :-)

I had cream of broccoli and cream of chicken both. I had a little of each left in the fridge and mixed them together and it wasn't that bad. Was kinda like a mini casserole in liquid form.

I also had cream of potato the other day. I have a can of cream of celery my husband bought me but not sure it sound very appealing to me. I may have to go buy something else (cream of soup) to mix it with.

Good luck. Let me know if you come up with any other combinations that are good. :D

When I was on that phase, I really loved the V8 Soups. There's no chunks in them and they're a creamier Soup. They have flavors like Tomato Garden, Butternut Squash, and Potato Basil. They're so good and very good for you- low fat and a full serving of veggies.

:( My sucky Walmart does not carry those kind of Soups. I wish they did because I love regular v8. I really love the spicy v8 but not sure if it is smart to drink it 6 days post-op.

I found a fiesta nacho cheese Soup from campbells in my cabinet. I might try mixing it and cream of broccoli together, may get dangerous and add some cream of chicken to it and see what happens.

You never know we may come up with some new recipes for post-op diets and make a cook book. haha :P

I actually did that! I mixed cream Soups all the time. One of my favorites was mixing cream of chicken with cream of onion. It was really really good!

I am in your same boat! I was banded friday, havent had much of an appitiate until this morning... my lord, it hit me like a hungry lion. inspired by your post and the help of others, I threw togeather cream of chicken, with a cream of celeray some pepper and a little dash of garlic powder... I am in 7th heaven right now.. soooo good... since they're the condenced Soups i did one can Water and one non fat milk... let it sit for a minute and it thickens right up... like someone said it tastes like a cassarol! (I also threw mine in the blender prehand to finish the chunks that were left) goodluck!!

Did any of u blend your Soups? I have been because I was under the impression I needed too. But does it go down okay without? I would rather not, as it takes away all the flavor!! Thanks!

I did not. I bought a sifter like for flour and ran my Soup through it to remove any chunks.

I also had the strain all my cream soups...not just because of chunks but to thin them out. For me regular thickness was a no no according to my doc.

I used a lot of the Lipton cup-o-soups - Cream of chicken, Tomato were my favs. Took me forever to get them in...kept having to warm them up.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
