I had my surgery on tuesday of last week (so 8 days ago). I went to my doctor today to make sure everything is healing well. He told me that I have healed so well that I can start eating any kind of food, exercise, and drink alcohol (as long as I mind my calories). He made an appointment for me to get my first fill in seven weeks. I ate about a 1/4 cup of rice and about an 1/8 cup of chicken for dinner with no problems. Although I feel totally fine, I still find it odd that I have permission to do everything 3-4 weeks earlier then is typically allowed. Did anyone else start eating solids one week after surgery?

Wow....I healed really well also but was still on a strict diet. Be careful. I think if I were you I would read up on why the post op diet is important. Then you can make an informed decision on how you want to proceed. I usually tell people to always listen to their doctor, but this one I'm not real sure about. There are so many different opinions, inform yourself, then choose what feels right for you.

Yeah I haven't had any problems since I've eaten but when I was doing research I didn't see any cases where people were allowed to change to solids so quickly. I never even had a puréed stage. I think it's odd but my doctor seems to be pretty confident.

Actually, I thought that was the easiest stage to follow. Always follow your instincts. You need to be your own advocate. Good luck, and just take it slow whichever path you decide to choose!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
