Starting point for weight loss

Recommended Posts

Just asking when do you start measuring weight loss is it your surgery date when you hit that sweet spot I had set goals but haven't met them but don't know when to set the starting point well I guess I'm saying it took awhile to get the restriction I needed to eat less to lose weight just something to think about what does everyone think

I went for my 2 week post-op visit today and, after the surgeon weighed me (yes, HE weighed me) he said, "Down 30 pounds already." Apparantly, he uses the weight that he records at the consultation meeting as the starting weight. Not me, I used the weight I was just prior to going into the OR as my starting weight so I lost 13.6 pounds in 2 weeks... NOT 30!

My surgeon uses my weight at the first consultation as my "starting" weight. I use the weight I was at when I decided to be banded, since the weight I lost between making that decision and the surgery date was absolutely related to the decision. That's the weight I was at when I determined that something MUST change and I started this journey.

I used my weight at the date of surgery. I only lost 8 pounds anyway between my initial consult and my surgery. So I don't count them.

Mys urgeon uses consultation weight since that's the last time pre-op I was on his scale. But I think that's bogus b/c I gained a good chunk between consultation & surgery, so I personally use my surgery date weight as my starting weight. And when my surgeon asks me how much I've lost, I make sure to tell him -- "X since consultation, but X since surgery day." I worked hard for those add'l lbs lost.

I use my surgery date weight.....but it is also my all time highest weight, so that made it pretty easy for me.

hehe I think I have gained weight since I decided to get banded because I got the "last supper" syndrome. I start liquids on Wednesday hopefully that will wash out all the crap I've been eating, and I'm going to use the weight I start from on Wednesday.

I count eveything. I put it on I took if off it all counts right? I don't know???:)

When I started this band trip I statrted at 270. when my Dr. first wieghted me I was only 261.(Liquide diet for two weeks to see if I could do it.) I count the 270. My pre-band fat days saw me at 340+ I walked myself down to 215 then I got re-married and gain some back that's when my band trip started. So for what it is worth start where you want.

The lapband journey started when the Dr said Yes, let's get you started on the pre-tests and pre-op diet. I was at 307 then. My last visit with him was Tuesday and he calculated my weight loss based on 307. I agree with Anillacookie, I did the work and I still am doing the work. It all counts, IMO.

I am with Alexandra, I counted the day I started losing weight, which, in my case immediately following my approval for the surgery. I was at my highest and banded or not, every ounce I have lost since then counts in my book. Some of it with the band, some without.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
