Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had to do this & if so, was it successful?

Any advice right now would help so much.

Thank you,

SCG

I have Tri-Care and had to do three appeals. It was worth it in the end and hey what do you have to lose. No pun intended hugs :)

Thanks guys!

Lassie, 3 appeals, really? That is very frightening! :o

The first one they turned down because my sleep apnea was not bad enough to qualify.

The second time my doc put in for my weight (which was borderline for their requirements).

They turned that down because I needed to be on a documented six month nutritional diet.

After my six month they turned me down because I had lost just enough weight to be under their guidelines. I was about five pounds under.

So I went back to the nutritionist for another month and gained back the five pounds and two more.

My doctor resubmitted to paperwork one more time and they approved it.

It has been a journey but so worth it, Hugs

Lassie,

Were these actual appeals where you had to write a letter? Or just resubmitting the paperwork? Also how long did each one take to get a response? Did the doctor help you at all with the process?

Sorry for all the questions, you've been a great help!

The second time my Doctor office did write a letter not sure if it was an appeal. I think they just kept resubmitting the paper work. My doctor's staff did everything they were the best. Good luck to you and hugs

I forgot to answer one of your questions. The time-line on each was just about a week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
