Another surgery

So I had the lap band two years ago and it doesn't seem to be working that well. My doctor brought up to me today to get the gastric sleeve. What to do. What to do. I wish it wasn't so hard to fight food addiction.

IMO, Any weight loss surgery is going to take commitment. Did you commit yourself to the band? Will you be able to make dietary commitments to the sleeve.

My sister had gastric bypass, lost a lot, but didn't make the lifestyle change ,I call commitment and gained all the weight back.

I wish you well on whatever you decide.

I was committed and lost track. But now I'm back on track eating right and exercising and I'm still not losing weight. I'm trying my hardest to get back on track like I was before but going to the gym six times a week and not seeing any results is discouraging.

Try logging everything to see if you are burning more calories then you are eating. Remember, if you are starting to work out again you are going to gain muscle first. Another adjustment your body will go through.

Try logging in to MyFitnessPal if you haven't already.

Yes I use myfitnesspal app on my phone. And I'm only eating 1000 calories a day. I was told to bump it up to 1200.

I know everyone is different, but I eat 600 calories a day and burn about 500-700. I have lost 145 pounds in a year. I could not fit 1000-1200 calories in me unless it was Protein drinks or soft foods. I work really close with my NUT and meet with her every 90 days.

Are you hungry or eating to get the calories in? At first I ate to follow a plan and get the calories In. My NUT said STOP it and only eat when hungry and eat smart (dense Protein first, veggies and small good carb). It took me six months to change my brain, but it worked!

I don't have advice other than to say I sympathize and I wish you the best. Hard times I know. I've been feeling discouraged too - I love coming on this website to help me feel better when I'm down so stay on here too no matter what you decide.

@ Caitlin, I understand your frustrations perfectly I too am struggling. Ever since I got the band I been having nothing but complications and my surgeon also suggested that she would remove the band and do a gastric sleeve. However I am not up for another surgery when I am so close to my goal. You have to ask you self if you are really ready to put your body through another surgery? How much have you lost since you got banded and what is you goal? if you are really far from your goal than maybe the Gastric Sleeve can help but I would also address the food addiction issue because no matter what surgery you may have if you don't address that issue it can really hinder your weight loss. I wish you well on your journey and don't give up cause we are all in this together!

I weigh more now then before I got banded. I did lose 50 lbs but gained it back. I have no idea what I want at this point. It does suck.

"can't keep most regular food down" sounds like you're too tight and I've heard many say that will stop weight loss and even cause weight gain. Just a thought. I hope others will chime in on this.

Just curious....do you count your protien shakes as part of your calorie intake or is that considered a freebie?

I also have heard of that as well, its possible it could be to much of a fill. I had a friend that tricked her band somehow, such as having a complete unfill and then waited a few weeks went back got a small fill and felt more restriction then she has ever felt before she got the unfill and from there she was able to lose all her weight because she was hardly ever hungry i guess she found her sweet spot. So maybe that might work for you, it worth a shot.

If you're relying on mostly liquids because you can't keep regular foods down, you're likely too tight. A band too tight actually can (and often does) lead to weight gain because you're stuck drinking calories or relying on slider foods. In fact, most people who gain with a band too tight will start losing again once they get a slight unfill and can actually eat a variety of healthy foods again.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
