Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone has been swallowing pills whole? (Tylenol, allergy meds, etc) as oppose to crushing them?

I just realized that I'm not allowed to take whole pills after being banded.... I mean I feel fine, but just wondering if I should be worried about anything? I'm 98 days post op..

Thanks!

For my allergies I take allertec (Costco version of Zyrtec) cause its small. For larger pills, I cut them in half. Most pills can be taken whole, unless they're huge!

I always take my pills whole. I have never crushed them or taken liquids ever and I have no issues.

I've never had a problem taking pills, even bigger ones. In fact, I've never bothered cutting or crushing pills. I've always just swallowed them.

If you do need to cut or crush a pill, check with your pharmacist first. Some pills are time release and unsafe to cut or crush, It's always better safe than sorry.

I take mine whole... I did have to go out and buy the mini Calcium pills, but other than that no problem. Oh... and I had trouble with the big calcium before the surgery!

My Dr. is concerned about the size, he said that many times erosion comes from larger pills like ibuprofen resting at the bottom of the Stoma and dissolving rather than passing through. I have a prescription for liquid ibuprofen.

I never have had a problem taking pills I just take one at a time. Please make sure to check with pharmacist or doctor before splitting any pills exspecially extended release.

I take all my pills whole.....like Missy said, make sure you check to see if your pills can and should be crushed! Pain medicine and some others can be fatal if crushed! It releases the full dosage at once! BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS!

Is anyone taking Multi Vitamins that are whole, or is everyone using the chewable form?

Thanks, I may switch to whole smaller pills like that. I just ran out of my Unjury chewable vitamins, they are just so expensive.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
