So its not 100% official (doc appt tomorrow) but my at home pregnancy test says I'm pregnant. I called my band Dr and the nurse said id have to have it taken all out :( but then said the ob usually wants it taken out.... I don't like that answer specially since I'm afraid of gaining wayyyy to much back. Sooo my question....how many of you had your doc leave your fills in? Did you have a choice? What are the risks of leaving it in? I'm sure I could get this from google but id rather have real answers :)

I was told I didnt have to have any taken out. But I got to the point when I just couldnt get enough calories in. So I asked to have half taken out.

I do not think you will find a doctor that will say leave the Fluid in because you can not get enough calories in to nourish your baby. Its not healthy to have fluid in your band while pregnant. Dont worry about gaining weight worry about your babies health.

Everyone I know who has been pregnant has not taken any out until needed. Their docs keep a watchful eye that they are getting enough nutrition, if not then they will unfill some. Also, if you have morning sickness. Because you have learned a new healthy way of eating you may not gain much weight anyway. FYI: It's ALWAYS your decision. Just make sure you put the baby and your health first. The weight will come back off.

I had 4 cc's in a 14 cc band throughout my nature pregnancy. I didn't have to have any fill taken out. Just make sure you're getting plenty of calories in. You only need 300 extra. I had a very healthy 8lb 9 oz little girl. I stayed exactly the same weight my entire pregnancy and at my two week check up I had lost 30 lbs from delivery day. You can do it. It's completely up to you. Just be aware of how much you're taking in and if you feel like you need more calories don't be afraid to have some fill taken out. You'll drop the weight as soon as the baby gets here.

I had half my Fluid out but it was by choice. I was swollen and unable to eat without getting stuck on everything. I still have restriction but I am eating pretty regularly. My doctor didn't seem to care how much he took out. I don't think he would have made me take any out if I didn't want too, and I was really scared he would because my nutritionist said he would so don't believe everything you hear!

I'm 25 weeks and I've gained 27 lbs, but I've been steadily gaining 1-2 lbs a month after my initial gain from losing my restriction. Try not to fret too much and remind yourself nutrition for the baby is the most important thing right now!

I just had my baby two weeks ago...never had an unfill at all and never had any issues either! My OB said that unless they determine the baby isn't getting enough nutrition, you are fine.

I have 6 weeks 2 days with our third baby. With my first pregnancies (2) I had terrible morning sickness which prompted me to have my Fluid removed. I put on a lot of my weight in this time :(

Once again, I have terrible morning sickness. Perhaps worse than before but I am keeping my Fluid in until the 3rd trimester. My lap band specialist mentioned there wasn't any reason it couldn't remain restricted providing that I was able to nourish myself and my baby's needs.

I had an empty band when I got pregnant due to a prior illness situation. But I will say this I am 30 weeks right now and with a totally empty band I'm getting stuck and even vomitting after just a few bites because I'm so swollen. So if you keep your fills be cautious as the weeks go on!

Its really up to your doc I guess if the ob wants it.out and you refuse they may opt not to see you. But my band doc always says if your getting all your calories in there is really no need to fully unfill you.

I see a few different PAs when I go to the band-office for my appointments. I'm currently 27weeks pregnant / 37weeks banded. I had one PA tell me they have to remove the Fluid at the 3rd trimester and another tell me I don't have to have any Fluid removed unless the baby isn't getting enough nutrients. My OB loves that I have a band and am working to get myself healthy. But of course, her main concern is the baby's health and growth. She said we'll just measure him more often to make sure he's growing properly. If all is well, she's fine w/ me keeping my current restriction level through the whole pregnancy.

If you have any questions, feel free to message me.

And CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Oh... and my baby boy is growing just fine. At 25weeks, he was 2lbs already!! The OB is thrilled!

And I haven't gained any baby/pregnancy weight. I've actually lost throughout the entire thing - not trying, just how my body reacts to the smaller portions.

thank you for your comment about your pregnancy and unfills. I too am newly banded and was terrified was I took a home test and found out I was expecting. My lb pa has put me at ease explaining that im not hurting anything by not waiting a yr to conceive. I thought I was the only one to have done this. I have unfilled a few cc's just as a precaution which has helped tremendously with morning sickness. My ob seems to want to watch me like a hawk. But with both my pregnancies prior to being banded I lost weight in the first two trimesters. Currently Im 9 weeks and haven't gained or lost

The only warning I have is the mental game. At 21 weeks, I started freaking out because I was so sure the scale would show that I had gained 10lbs. It didn't, I lost another 2 at that appointment. My biggest struggle is not letting my size bother me. My weight is fine - my last appointment I was up 1lb from the previous. It's the size that gets to me. A month ago, I was in a solid size 18 pants and happy as could be. I haven't gained any weight according to the scale but this little boy is getting big!! I'm almost filling out my 22s again. And even though I know it's all baby and not fat and perfectly healthy - it's really really messing with my head!!! So whether you decided to get unfilled or not, beware the games your own mind will play on you...

I only have 2 cc's in my band, but my surgeon said that until I'm sick (which I never was with my son) or it becomes uncomfortable, I can leave it in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
