9 days until banding...

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have been a member here since 2010 and this is my first post. I am scheduled to be banded January 30th and have been on the pre op diet since Wednesday. I am not on a liquid diet but 1000 calorie low carb diet and other than being tired its going well. I am getting a bit nervous though about the surgery... any words of advice or encouragement?? Thanks!

I was banded 1/7/2013. There is nothing to be nervous over, concentrate on 1 day at a time. Others have gone before you, you can do it just like they did.

Thank you. I have been reading so many posts about liquid diets and am nervous my liver will not be OK for surgery because I am eating real food. I completely trust my doctor but can't help thinking something will happen to delay or stop the banding. I am generally a positive person.....just tired and antsy I guess. Thanks again for the encouragement. :-)

Some doc insist on pre op diets, some don't. Just as long as you follow your doctor's advise, you will be fine. If you weren't a bit nervous, I would be worried about you! : ) Worry means you know there will be unknowns and changes and you appreciate the importance of doing it correctly.

You sound prepared and grounded and ready, now go and succeed!!!!

You will be fine. I had it done last Jan. of 2012. Have only lost 30 pounds but for the last year, I only got filled 3xs. Two weeks ago, i decided I needed a fill. WOW. I can tell a difference. I have to really chew my food, eat slower. Good luck, im sure you'll be glad you did this. I am!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
