Slipped Band

Recommended Posts

Hi Shanna

Thanks. I haven't been PB'ing at all. You think I should go in and have some fill removed? Gosh, I hate to do that as before this fill I could eat way too much. I am actually waiting for his nurse to call me back now. Hopefully she will get a chance today.

If you're only able to get liquids and very soft foods in without being in pain, then YES! go get a slight unfill. I was in your position several times during my band journey and being too tight led to my slip. You really want to take care of your band - it's really hard to be without it.

I'm glad you called the dr - take care of yourself, OK! Let us know how it goes...

Hi Shanna

I can't even get liquids or very soft foods in without pain. I am actually on hold with my doctors office now. How did you discover your band had slipped?

I had been having on and off problems for weeks (I think my slip was gradual) then...

On Wednesday, March 29, I became VERY sick - throwing up constantly and unable to keep anything down. I thought I had a stomach virus or something. The next day I went to the dr for a aninausea shot because I was worried about damage to my band - the shot did nothing for me, neither did the suppositories. So on Friday I called my band dr and he had me come in right away to check it and it had slipped. So he unfilled me completely and I had surgery the following Monday, April 3. He was unable to fix it due to adhesions.

I don't want to scare you because most people who think they may have slipped, really haven't - you probably just need a slight unfill. But I do want to stress how important it is to see your dr and not continue to be in pain. I've been there and it's awful. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Let me know what the nurse says when you get off the phone.

MAKE THEM SEE YOU - TELL THEM IT'S AN EMERGENCY. Tell them that you're afraid of becoming dehydrated. Dehydration can make you very sick.

Hi Shanna

Holy buckets! That's horrible! Did they replace it? I don't think it has slipped - maybe it's beginning to or something. But anyway, I have an appointment Monday morning at 10:35 am. I will be sure to post the results. Thank you sooo much!!

I'm so glad you were able to get an appointment. No, they couldn't replace it. He sure tried (for over an hour), but there were adhension on my stomach from the band moving back and forth. Oh well...Let us know how your appt on Monday goes.

Take care,

Hi. I am not sure what is happening with my band either. By the way, what DOES PB stand for? Don't mean to sound dumb, but I honestly can't figure it out. Anyway, I had a fill mid-March. Stayed on Soups and liquids for a week. Gradually started eating again. Went out to dinner one night and ate two very small pieces of fish and three french fries. That was three weeks ago, and I have been having pain when I eat ever since. It is getting worse, too. I haven't thrown up or anything like that, but it sure does hurt a lot. I have tried talking to my surgeon but he seems to think it is supposed to be like this. I disagree. It's like stuff is hanging up in my throat or something. It hurts when I drink anything or try eating anything. I am trying the things I saw on this website (I just found out about it yesterday) like the warm tea, etc. So far today I have eaten a small amount of pudding and a small amount of food. I am trying to drink some gatorade so I don't get too dehydrated, but that is rough going down as well. I don't know what the problem is or how to fix it. Any suggestions?

Productive burping. I really don't "PB" I just throw it up.........

I bet you need a barium swallow so they can check the placement on your band!!

My doctor doesn't think there is a problem with the band. But you can bet I am going to request they do it any way!! Thanks to everyone for replying!! I appreciate it. A lot.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
