Can anyone give me a suggestion on what to do. I had to have all my Fluid taken out of my band because everything I ate was getting stuck and I was having trouble swallowing. Now I am hungry all the time and am eating more. Only about 1300 calories a day because I keep track on Fitness Pal. Well I have not lost any weight since November and just recently gained 2 lbs. Im getting scared, I don't see how I could gain weight on 1300 calories a day and I work out 3 days a week.

Thanks for any imput in this matter.

I would recommend you speak to your nutritionist? I too thought I was eating right but she opened my eyes and gave me a few options to replace the foods I was eating. Made a big diff for me.

Good advice from 2muchfun, make an appt with your nutritionist, stay with your food plan and take charge of this situation. It is important to continue with the positive band habits since without fill, you are more prone to a slip if you over eat, take too big of bites, etc. Good luck and keep us posted!

Just to add to my earlier comment, I agree it seems unlikely that you wouldn't be losing weight with the regiment you're on. The math says you should be losing. That's what I thought too, but I was grazing here and there and was not eating the foods that helped my band to be the "tool" it's designed to be.

You are probably gaining muscle if you're working out, also maybe some Fluid retention? Eventually the scales will start going down again, it's a frustrating process at times. Just remember if you are gaining muscle down the track you will burn calories more efficiently and once the fat has melted away you'll have nice toned muscles showing through.

Im 65 years old and was banded 1 1/2 years ago. Lost 50 lbs. and am so happy for that. I NEVER had a fill and still have problems digesting certain meats/pasta, etc. My nutritionist at drs office wants me to be able to eat everything and wants to possibly go in and readjust the band. I am afraid to do this bcause I know I will gain start gaining. At least I am being restricted from eating everything I like. I am okay with my diet the way it is now. Why do they want to tamper with it? I think there must be some Fluid in the band just from the original surgery. Am I correct? Has anyone else had this problem. The nut says I should not have to use sauces with meats to help them go down. That is how I eat.....but happy with it. What do you think???

Ms Maui: Hi thanks for your reply. Only thing is I NEVER got a fill yet. Could there me that much in the band with the initial surgery. I am satisfied with what I am able to eat....but cannot eat everything I used to. I think that is a good thing bcause I probably would not be able to maintain the weight loss if I could eat everything. Am I correct in my thinking. Question: After a fill are you able to eat all kinds of foods without any problems?

I know that some doctors "prime" the band at surgery with a small fill, 3cc or so. I would ask a lot of questions...if your band is doing what you want it to do AND you're not having difficulty eating what you should, then I would leave well enough alone. Most people I know with bands need moist meats...even cutting it into 1/4 in pieces, I have difficulty with dry meats...if a little sauce helps, then why not?

Ms. Maui: I agree...but my nutritionist and PA at drs office said I should be able to eat everything. They want to tamper with the band....but I say leave well enough alone. I aM happy with the weight loss and afraid to adjust it. Don't really think it is a big problem that I use sauces and condiments....they say I should not. Will leave it alone for now....and hope I have no problems. thanks for your honest reply. CAT

Your doctors are right Catlady, and so are you. You are not using the band the way it was intended. However, as long as you are happy with how it works and can keep your weight off, why rock the boat? But, if you're not getting the proper nutrition, I can see why the doc and nut want to adjust your band? BTW-you hijacked this thread. Next time you might want to start your own topic?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
