I am having my surgery Feb. 19 and am ready! I sleep on my left shoulder side and can't on the right side due to pitching a baseball for so many years. Anyway, can I request which side to put the port on? I don't want to be lying on the port at night if I don't have to be. Also, I'm worried about feeling the band and port inside my body. Is it a constant or once in awhile? Thanks for any feedback!

The port goes on top of your ab muscle but under your skin (and fat :) ) So you won't feel it unless you're pressing on it. I never felt my port when sleeping - if I leaned over the back of the couch or laid on my stomach while on a hard surface I could feel it, but it didn't hurt. Hope that helps.

My port is a little to the right, below my chest bone. I never really feel it and i sleep on my stomach. I have never felt my band before...I forget about it mostly unless I eat too fast!

Just an FYI, for the first 2 weeks or so after the surgery, you will find sleeping on your back to be the most comfortable. I am a side/stomach sleeper and I couldn't sleep either way until about 2 weeks post-op. The soreness from the surgery and the 'pulling' feeling hurt and made is difficult to sleep any other way than my back. Today I can sleep on my stomach and side no problem; but as mentioned above, when I lean back, lean over something, or am laying on a hard surface I can feel my port.

I never had an issue sleeping on my side from the port. Its in the front of your stomach in the muscle. I think its up to your particular doctor where they put it. No you can not feel the band inside of you. I do feel when I get a fill it tightening around my stomach but other then things getting stuck I dont feel anything unusual. I can feel my port now that I have lost a lot of weight but it is not visable to the eye.

No you can't feel the band. My port is on the right and yes I can feel it but that's cuz I'm three weeks post op and its still a lil swollen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
