JJLaw08 4 Posted January 21, 2013 I am a self-pay patient, and my doctor's office has a contract with the hospital for lap band fills under fluro. It is $150.00 for the hospital portion, and whatever the doctor fee is (usually around $125.00). Well I guess they decided to bill my insurance, which I told the admitting lady that my insurance would not pay. Well to my surprise I received a bill for over 2,700.00 for this procedure. This was down from the over $4,000.00 they wanted to charge. My mom is self pay as well, and she had a fill under fluro about a month before I did. She never received this outrageous bill so I'm going to have to have a nice conversation with the hospital tomorrow. Should be interesting. I'm a little afraid, but I know what we were told by the admitting people. I'm just venting a little tonight. Sorry.
SueBee01 630 Posted January 21, 2013 Stay strong and work with them. I think cash pays are usually less then ins so make sure you check with them again. Good luck. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
JJLaw08 4 Posted January 21, 2013 Thank you. I don't know why they filed it on my insurance. I told them up front I was self pay, and all my paperwork had self pay on it. I guess I'll see how it goes in the morning. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
CHEZNOEL 4,061 Posted January 21, 2013 Most hospitals file insurance no matter what you tell them. Good luck yelling at them! 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

Jewelsm1127 351 Posted January 21, 2013 JJ - hang tough and don't get nasty with them until you have to. My hospital billed everything through my insurance as ancillary which my insurance doesn't cover and I got a big fat bill for over $10k because they didn't put it through right. I will be calling the hospital tomorrow myself. Good luck with getting it all straightened out!
JJLaw08 4 Posted January 21, 2013 Well that was relatively easy. I called, told her what was going on, and she looked and said okay, I'll do an adjustment on this today. No problems whatsoever (hopefully).
