Hello everyone! I am 10 months post op and also scared to pieces. I lost my health insurance a few months after surgery when my husband was laid off. I have had 2 fills only. I've lost about 80 lbs but not without feeling like I'm starving to death! I exercise about twice a week for an hour. It's not much, I know. I have been praying and biding my time until we have health insurance again, so that I can get another fill. I feel as if my financial situation has caused me to fail here. I'm always hungry lately and it's a miserable feeling. Worse yet, this lady week I gained 5 lbs. GAINED. Some days i feel like i had surgery for nothing. I could really use any advice or encouragement anyone has to give.

Thanks in advance!

First of all, a loss of 80 lbs is a victory in my book!! Don't sell yourself short! To do that without proper restriction is GREAT!

Sorry to hear about losing your insurance, but possibly your surgeon included a years of fills with the initial charge to your insurance? It might be worthwhile to call the office and explain your situation and see?

I wish you well on your continued success

I'm sorry you're struggling.

If I were in your shoes, I'd call your surgeon. Explain your situation and see if maybe they can work out a deal to give you a break on the cost of fills. I've known others to do this and only end up paying $50-$100 per fill. It's definitely worth a try.

Feeling you're starving hungry all the time is awful. It's a shame you don't have enough Fluid in your band because it's that exact feeling the band was meant to help control. Until you get adequate Fluid in your band, the only advice I can offer is to load up on Protein. Protein keeps you full a lot longer than carbs.

Good luck to you and definitely give your surgeon a call.

Thank you everyone! I've been feeling fairly bummed lately about the constant hungry feeling. Most times I just try hard to distract myself.

I am self pay and my fills we're $50. I would call your dr and make an appointment. You are ready for a fill it sounds like. I cannot imagine they will turn you away if you can say pay half at the time of visit and half on your next payday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
