Weak and no energy on preop diet

Recommended Posts

I am on a pre op diet for 2 weeks, just wrapping up week 1. I am so weak, no energy and at times feel like I am going to pass out.

I can eat 3 meals per day that consist of a Protien and some veggies. No fruit, nuts, dairy or sugar!

I can hardly stand to get off the couch - forget about exercise!!

Anyone else experiencing this?

Sounds like you need to up the Protein count a bit. Use protein Snacks and shakes to boost you up, but no caffeine.

make sure you are taking a multi Vitamin. You body is probably in a "withdrawl state" from sugar or carbs. When your body is used to eating or drinking a certain way, it takes time to get adjusted to a new way of eating/drinking.

I would add a protien shake to your meal plan as a snack.< /p>

The nutritionist told me to not take the multi Vitamin before surgery as it can affect my blood.

I have tried replacing a meal with a Protien shake as it has more Protien in it than my food seems to. I seem to be getting only about 500 calories per day which is more than I guess I would on a liquid diet. Still to weak to do much.

If I could only have a chocolate bar :)

You need to ^ the Protein, take a Vitamin and drink more broth! I had that problem, I even wanted to black out in the shower! Don't worry you'll survive!

Jewel....why are you only getting 500 calories per day???? Of course your weak! Get your protein!! Why replace a meal with a Protein Shake? Eat!! This is so unhealthy! Not only is your body in withdrawal from sugar, dairy, caffeine, ect., your also starving it! Make sure you drink a lot of water! Hydration is important before surgery. You are weakening your body, therefore, weakening your immune system. This is not an ideal situation to put your body in before having surgery! I don't know any person on the band that could function off 500 calories a day. Learn how important it is to know how to feed your body with healthy nutrients so it will perform for you, not against you. Being thin and unhealthy is not the goal! Maybe you need to talk to a nutritionist to get some ideas of how to get in the right amount of fuel for our body.

I am following what I am supposed to be eating. A Protien with each meal plus veggies. It just doesn't add up to very many calories. I am also drinking 2+ litres of Water per day.

Jewel...those are the same guidelines I follow, Protein first, then veggies. When your banded its the same thing! Have you talked to a nutritionist to get ideas of what foods you can eat that pack the most punch for your body? If you don't get some of this information, I am concerned that this process could be like a fad diet rather than a lifestyle change. Your body will only go so long before you and it crack! Then you will be back to gaining weight instead of losing it. There are so many things that need to be addressed to ensure long term success with the band. It takes a lot of things working together for success. If one piece of the puzzle is missing is doesn't work!

No worries on that. I contacted the nutritionist when I started feeling weak and I have e mailed her again today as it did not get any better this weekend. I am eating lots of chicken and fish. It's the veggies that have so few calories that seems hard to get the numbers up. I was thinking I would change my morning from eggs to chicken or fish to increase the Protien.

I am craving chocolate and toast so I think I am low on carbs and sugar. I had no idea how much I ate of these before until now!

I've been experiencing this too, especially when exerting myself a bit (I visited a museum for a few hours with a friend this weekend, and really wore myself out just being on my feet and walking around for a 3 hours or so). My doc has me on 3 Protein shakes/drinks a day, totaling 81g protein and 450 calories. I found out just today, after calling his office, that it was OK to have chicken broth, and sugar-free Jell-O and Popsicles. They didn't tell me this previously! Today is Day 7 for me, and I've lost 16 pounds. It's at least as hard as I thought it would be. We'll make it!

Jewel....I'm so glad your feeling better! I know what it's like to try to figure out the food and nutrition part of your new lifestyle! It seems like there are more can't haves than can have. It really is a lot easier once you get in the swing of things, you learn to get creative. You will learn it's okay to maybe have certain things that others call taboo, because your body responds better with it than without it! This is really a journey of getting to know your body and how it responds to certain foods. Don't be afraid to experiment! I have a horrible sweet tooth that just has never went away. So every morning, and sometimes even before bed, I have my cup of diet hot chocolate! It gives me my chocolate "fix"! LOL.. The warm Water also wakes up my sleeping band in the morning. I will be thinking of you next week and saying a prayer for your speedy recovery! Good luck and God Bless!

Guys, my nurse told me that pre-op diet would make me thankful for my band, and I want to tell you she was totally right. The 10 days before the bend were pure hell, since the band it has been a total and utter blessing. Focus on what you are working for, you CAN do it.

It's getting easier for me. I am on day 9 of 14 and yesterday was so much better. Everyone is going to handle it differently. I could eat a Protien and veggies 3x per day and was still hungry after, now I am more content. I was use to eating so much before I had a hard time with my reduction of carbs and sugar.

And... I haven't cheated! Although I still want a chocolate bar really bad!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
