Really? Just when I thought I could get back on track!

Recommended Posts

I just committed myself to getting back on track. Eating right, exercising, and following the band rules! I have lost 9 pounds since January 4th. Thought I was on a roll! Then I go to the doctor for stomach pain and find on Monday they want to do a colonoscopy and while they are there they are going to fix my inner and outer hemorrhoids, which is a 2 week recovery. On top of that, he sent me to my gynecologist, which informed me that I need a total hysterectomy! Which is a 6 week recovery! That is scheduled January 29th. Right now I'm having a pity party! I did say that I want this journey to be about health instead of my weight! I guess these surgeries are also a road I have to take for my health! I just wish they would have been done before I recommitted myself! LOL. WOW, that pity party was great for me!

Wow, sorry to hear all that...but it is also good to see you are seeing your Dr. regularly to keep on top of this so it all doesn't steam roll over you at once later on down the road....

But concerning your band and weight loss.....what do you think you did to get off track? Not judging, just that I am always curious when people have these types of setbacks....

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! It means a lot to me! B-52, I went off track when my dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I tried to take care of my household and family and did what I could to help my mom to care for my dad who was at home and needed constant care. Someone had to be in the house with him at all times. He then passed away and 6 months later my 24 year old niece passed away unexpectedly from lung problems. During this time I was eating whatever and whenever I got the chance. Not thinking about band rules, and definitely not taking the time out of my day to exercise! This was about a 2 year period! Then I just realized that life is too short and we are not guaranteed another day, and I wasn't going to live with regrets! The I wish I would haves! I never want to get the news from my doctor saying "if you would have just lost the weight you wouldn't be ????" There are not a lot of things that I have complete control of regarding my life span, but my weight is one! I made a promise to myself that my weight is not going to be the factor that takes me out!

One day a time. Each surgery is a separate event, and if you eat healthy through out it all, you dod not have to get seriously off track. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

You will do fine. Just because you are having surgery doesnt mean you cant stay on track with your band. When they do the hemmrhoid surgery you probably wont want to eat for fear of pooping lol so that should make you lose a few pounds. Just take one day at a time and you will do it but don't resort back to eating because you are having a rough time.

Cheryl...the poop thing cracked me up!!! Thanks again everyone for your words of support! I'm worried about the food thing. I'm thinking maybe I should get a bunch of weight watchers or lean cuisine meals. I know my family and friends will be making things and bringing them over so I don't have to cook for my family the first week. And everyone knows how much I love sweets! My husband doesn't cook anything that's not high in calories and he loves to stare at me while I try his new recipes! I think I'm also nervous about giving up control of my house and work to someone else. I have never had a surgery were I haven't been able to do anything for more than a few days. I kind of feel like I will be losing control of everything! I know this is so stupid, but it has been bothering me so much that I'm already trying to think of excuses to cancel the hysterectomy on the 29th. My mind is such a dangerous thing! Lol

This really is a LOT to go through in 2 months. Maybe one way to deal with it is to accept you can't exercise as much as you want, but only focus on the food. Tell people what you do and don't want if they're going to bring food over. If you're good with controlling your portions, control just how much you eat. The Lean Cuisines is a good idea but be careful because the sodium and preservatives in prepackaged foods can hurt your healing process and weight loss process.

One thing you might want to try is to cook foods you will eat and freeze them if possible. Roast up a whole chicken before surgery and cut it up into meals you can microwave yourself, for example. At least mix in some natural foods with the prepackaged, is all.

After these surgeries you'll feel pretty crappy for a few days and may not want to eat, anyway. Also, your "exercise" can be modified to just be walking up and down steps, or doing 1 load of laundry, or anything around the house that takes energy and doesn't hurt your post-op status. Remember....the "all or nothing" mind set (I have this too) is just a symptom of food addiction. bust out of that mind set. You can still follow band rules, temporarily modified :)

Last thought, if it helps - the more you verbally communicate to people about your needs the better you are setting yourself up for success. Your husband, your family, don't sabotage you. You are in control. They can't force you off your band diet...if you think their food will tempt you, tell them you don't want it. If they bring it, threaten to throw it out, lol. Fight for yourself!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
