When were you banded? I had pains like this for the first three days after surgery and could not take a deep breath to save my life. it was the worst part of the whole thing for me. Then, it went away, all by itself! These pains can last for quite a while and sometimes radiate to the shoulder too (I didn't have that thank goodness). If you aren't long out of surgery, then keep doing what you're doing and walk around as much as you can and it will go.

Hi N,

I was banded on Monday and I have been having chest pains too! They come and go. I almost always feel it when I am sitting on the toilet ;).

I think it is gas from the surgery. Hopefully it will work its way out soon. When were you banded?

Hello NP,

I was banded on 4/27/06 and I still occasionally get that same chest pain... It will com and go for a little while. Be careful with your liquids, they may be too cold or too hot for you, which can also cause the pains in your chest to . My issue was drinking to fast. Once I slowed down, my chest pains diminished. Good Luck!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
