Hi all,

Just a quick poll of the banded for enquiring minds. :hungry:

Could be fun, could be informative.

Ok you are banded, you're losing weight, doing the best you can have you eaten or can you eat (in the proper amounts of course) without pb-ing:

Pasta with sauce?

Lasagna?

Mac n cheese?

Grits?

oatmeal?

Cucumbers?

Bananas?

Grilled cheese sandwich?

Oysters as in fresh?

Sushi?

Rice?

Shrimp as in cocktail?

Celery?

French fries?

Fake crab meat?

Corn on the cob?

Chili with Beans?

Enchilada?

Have you ever slipped up and had champagne? What happened? What could happen?

Thank you for answering!

Pasta with sauce? Yep. once a week, for Sunday dinner (I'm Italian... it'a a tradition)

Lasagna? Just had it last night. Yummy.

Mac n cheese? Yep, with some nice baked fish.

Grits? Don't like em. Had cream of wheat though, same consistency.

Oatmeal? Every weekday AM. It is my Breakfast I have at my desk every workday. Weekends I usually do eggs.

Cucumbers? Don't like em.

Bananas? Don't like em.

Grilled cheese sandwich? I don't do bread unless it is toasted... a lot, so I could do this, but haven't tried.

Oysters as in fresh? Yep. Raw. Had to chew a lot. Not that great when you have to chew them so much, they get bitter.

Sushi? Don't like it. Cook my fish, dammit!

Rice? Occasionallly. Chew it up good.

Shrimp as in cocktail? Yep. Like the oysters, you really have to chew a lot. Had my first PB on a piece of shrimp. Careful.

Celery? Not good. Gets stuck. I avoid it.

French fries? Yep. went down fine, especially when covered in gravy.

Fake crab meat? Nope, haven't tried it yet.

Corn on the cob? Haven't tried it yet either.

Chili with Beans? Monday... yummy, and goes down good.

Enchilada? mmmmmm.... Good stuff, no probs.

Have you ever slipped up and had champagne? What happened? What could happen? Had a momosa last weekend. Made me burp... loud!

Pasta with sauce? Oh yeah

Lasagna? Yep, cheese only ... and with meat

Mac n cheese? Yep

Grits? Nah, but I didn't eat them often pre-banding either. :uwelcome:

Oatmeal? Haven't yet (not my norm)

Cucumbers? Yes

Bananas? OH YEAH

Grilled cheese sandwich? Yep, love 'em

Oysters as in fresh? Ewww!

Sushi? Nope, I had "beef on stick" -- I hate fish, lol.

Rice? Yes

Shrimp as in cocktail? Yep (shrimp <> fish, lol)

Celery? Only in Soup... it's REALLY hard to chew to goo

French fries? Yes (*blush*)

Fake crab meat? Lobster bites from Long John Silvers count? :)

Corn on the cob? Haven't tried this one... corn is supposed to be a no-no (too much Fiber / skin)

Chili with Beans? OH YEAH

Enchilada? Yep

Have you ever slipped up and had champagne? What happened? What could happen? I'm not a champagne drinker, but I had "flat" diet coke that wasn't all that flat. I had heart burn from it & burped a TON. Technically it could stretch the pouch, or so I've been told. My doc wasn't too worried about it, he just asked that we let it go flat first. But the new coke doesn't seem to GO flat! I cracked the 3 liter & waited a week, lol. Still had some fizz. Weird.

I currently have 1.2 cc in a 4cc band. With more restriction I may lose some foods... but so far anything goes, as long as I chew it well & wait 30-60 seconds between bites.

Oh Big Paul I love you!

I should be banded by July. I am also Italian, I know if I can't tolerate it I will obviously have to give up Pasta. But it is so much a part of all my holidays, my family.

I keep reading that some people can and some people can't. I had originally thought it was absolutely never, ever ever. But from reading I see that it might be possible.

In addition to coming out of surgery alive, I hope I can still have a small bit of pasta in my life!!!!

Whooo Hooo

Thanks Big Guy

After I finished my love to Big Paul, I see Janet answered too.

Oh Thank you so much Janet-

I wonder why banders seem to be able to eat Beans (like refried or in chili) but not corn? I actually can live without both but it seems like the fiber/hull outside of the bean is real similiar to corn.

Just food musing.

Thanks again JanetC!!!

Yes to everything except I PB'd on sushi (I ate it with the rice which is what I think the problem was). I have 1cc in a 4cc 10cm band.

Champage? Well when I helped my friend move we polished off three bottles between four people! It was amazingly delicious and nothing happened, not even extra gas. I have also had a Coke Zero but have since been really cutting back on carbonation since no one knows what effect it can have on the band. My doctor's office told me it's ok to have, but since the jury is really out, I'm trying to limit it. That being said, you can rest assured I will be drinking champage in the future.

Pasta with sauce? Yup. Love it. I find that as long as the Pasta is "well done", it's not a problem and that Barilla Plus even has Protein...mm mm good

Lasagna? Yup, see above

Mac n cheese? Yup, even the stuff in the "blue box"

Grits? Haven't tried them. What can I say.......I live in Ohio, we don't do grits.

oatmeal? Yup, I eat it pretty regularly for Breakfast.........it helps keep ME "REGULAR"

Cucumbers? Yup, I don't always eat the skins. Makes me nervous.

Bananas? Yup, all the time. Love 'em

Grilled cheese sandwich? Yup....even the ones in the restraunts with thicker bread and cheese.

Oysters as in fresh? Haven't tried. Don't like 'em.

Sushi? Not a sushi eater. I live a sheltered life. Probably couldn't pronounce most of them anyway.

Rice? Yup.........all kinds, white, brown, steamed and fried.....mexican rice here I come!

Shrimp as in cocktail? Yup...mm mm good AND lots of Protein

Celery? Yup, BUT I don't eat them in the stalk form like I used to. I cut them in chunks-I'm afraid of the stringy things getting stuck

French fries? Yup, but I try not to make a habit of ANY fried food

Fake crab meat? "FAKE" crab meat? I've eaten crab cakes and crab out of the shell. Is "fake" crab meat in crab cakes?

Corn on the cob? Yup. Love it. But, I chew it REALLY well. Any corn I chew really well.

Chili with Beans? Yup. I love chili. I love Soup, especially Soup with Beans, I see it as little drops of protein goodness without having to chew all that darn meat.

Enchilada? YUP! Hubby's Mexican-American, so I make 'em and we LOVE 'em. I don't eat them often............lots of fat calories............

I have eaten & had zero problems with everything you have listed. In fact am having sushi tonight!!! But I do not do oysters- I usually would have them rockerfeller but am way to afraid of not being able to chew them well enough.

Also celery is best when cut up very very small & used in something like tuna fish or w/low fat blue cheese! Yum I am getting hungry.

The champagne I steer clear of but do have a n occasional diet soda after it has sat out awile & drank very very slowly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
