I am 19 years old and I had the Lap band surgery in north London 2 days ago on Tuesday night. Recovery has been going well so far although I am feeling quite swollen under my ribcage. I'm nervous about the next month with no solid food! I don't understand how I won't be hungry from only eating soup!

Unfortunately, you will be hungry! This is probably the most frustrating time most of us will have with the band! Just follow your doctors restrictions, do as he says, and don't worry about your weight right now! This is the time your body is healing and getting use to something new! When you first start mushies from liquids most people will gain weight. You will wonder how that is possible and could get discouraged. My biggest advice would be don't weigh yourself for the first 8 weeks. It can mess with your mind! It will go up and down so much it can get discouraging! And just having surgery can make us emotional enough, you don't need to add that extra stress! After 8 weeks of healing and adjusting your mind and body to the band, then give it all you got! Good luck, stick with it, and the band will work for you if you work with it! It may not feel like it during this time, that's normal, but have faith! Again, good luck!

Of course you will be hungry but this is the time for self control. Its only a month out of your life. You can do it.

Have lots of Protein. Follow your docs orders but I was allowed stuff like nonfat plain yogurt, Protein Shakes, cream of wheat, non fat milk, sugar free pudding, n non fat powder milk for the added protein, to enrich your milk. I didn't really have an appetite till day 6 post op n felt really hungry on day 7. Day 7 I saw my doc n he allowed me to have blended foods. He said mostly protein, lots of Water, n start exercise. The blended protein has been great for me n has kept me satisfied. I just have trouble with recipes n trying to figure out what to blend with my chicken, Turkey, n fish with. No red meat for me yet.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
