brannewmee 103 Posted January 17, 2013 Does insurance cover tummy tucks. I've heard yes but how does this work?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted January 17, 2013 Some will cover an abdominalplasty to remove the excess skin but not an actual Tummy Tuck. There are a few that will cover a tummy tuck but that's usually harder to get covered. Either way, it has to be proven medically necessary. Many require a weight loss of at least 100 pounds and documented skin problems by 6 months of doctor's records. But again...they're all different. You'd have to see what yours says specifically. cheryl2586 3,053 Posted January 17, 2013 I doubt insurance will pay for it because its cosmetic and most will not pay for cosmetic procedures.
laurigee 545 Posted January 17, 2013 Like Missy said, some do cover removing excess skin. A friend of mine had excess skin that was causing open sores that wouldnt heal and would get infected. Her insurance considered it under medical instead of cosmetic! However, they did not tighten the muscle that they tighten during a Tummy Tuck? I think that's how she explained it. I don't know anything about tummy tucks, but I remember her saying there was something they didn't tighten like they do in the tummy tuck. Anyway, it's always worth a try to get it covered if you can! Are you sure you'll need one? Are you at goal or just starting out? I lost over 100 pounds and my stomach has nothing to tuck! I did gain back 40 in the last 2 years, so I'm hoping that's still the case! LOL

I am at 15 days post-op so have a ways to go. I was just curious. I've seen lots of peeps say they paid 19-25k for the works. Wow that's expensive. How did your friends stomach look after her surgery?

I love to walk. I did a lot of walking up and down hills. I also like to change up walking and running. I will run for 10 minutes then walk for 15 minutes. And keep doing that for an hour or more. I also lifted weights 3 times a week. I don't like to get into a rut with exercise otherwise I get bored. The most important thing is to do things you enjoy otherwise we tend to get burned out.
