Scheduled Feb. 5th!!! More Terrified about Pre-Op Liq. diet :(

Recommended Posts

Help!! I need tips on how to get through this anxiety. I need to start my 1 week liquid diet on Tuesday, January 29th and I am so spooked as to how I am going to do this. I keep telling myself there are some that had to do this longer. I just think back to a time when my husband and I juiced for 3 days and we thought we were gonna die as we were so hungry and felt so ill. Also, I find myself eating myself into an oblivion as I'm realizing my time will soon come to say bye bye to this horrible mess I'm in. Sooo looking forward to this life changing experience for myself!

Hi Kped,

I am anxious about my 4 week post-op diet :( Just think if you juiced for 3 days, it's only 4 more you have to get through. Try to keep motivated by looking at pictures of how other people on this site started out and look now....I often do that to keep myself motivated.

Good Luck you can do this!

The 2 weeks of liquid hell I went through taught me so much. I learned while its not fun I can live without food... I just need nutrition. I learned food is just the fuel I need to survive. I also learned that I can do anything I put my mind too....not that I didnt know that part but it was a good reconfirmation.

I didnt cheat on my 2 week liquids because I wanted a healthy liver so my Dr could see what he was doing during surgery... and I wanted to do it to prove to myself I was committed to the band....

My dr also adheres to 2 weeks of liquid post op so all and all 4 weeks of liquid essentially changed my life!

The pre diet isn't as bad as you think. I did the Chike shakes 3 a day and lost 16 pounds before surgery. After day three it gets easier. You can do it!!

its hard, no doubt

but in all seriousness, its a mind game

we go into this thinking (we cant or its too hard)

i never ever thought i could do it.....i dreaded my 2 1/2 weeks i had to do,,but on day 4 or 5, its not that bad...you detox from sugar and all toxins and you actually start feeling okay......the Protein is your fuel....so you wont starve....by drinking alot, you will realize what is really hunger or you just think you are hungry.....

my saving grace was SF popsicles...

just remember, this is to help shrink your liver into a piece of gorgeous so they can operate. its only for a short time but when your own it, its like forever..but you can do this if you want to.

dont think you cant because deep down, YOU CAN

I was spooked by the pre-diet as well, but I took it as a trial by fire. How in the heck was I going to make the life adjustments that I had to make to be successful, if I couldn't go a couple of weeks on a extremely reduced calorie eating plan. If I couldn't do that, I really needed to rethink letting them poke holes in me.

i'm on the other side now and my nurse was correct, the pre-op diet not only shrank the fat in my liver, it gave me the proper mindset to start to learn to live with my band.

I start on the pre-op diet on 1/29, as well, so I'm feeling your anxiety too. One big difference between a juice fast and a liquid diet is the Protein. So at least that might feel a little better. :) You can do it! We'll talk each other through it!

I start my 2 week pre op diet tomorrow. While I'm a bit nervous, I'm also excited. I'm trying to look at is as this is truly the beginning of my new journey in life and my road to a new me. I keep telling myself if I can't handle just a few weeks of liquids and strict diet, how can I expect to make the necessary changes to keep myself healthy for a lifetime?!

We can and will do this!! Best part is we're all in this together!

Officially started my pre op diet today. Although I've been slowly introducing them into my life for a few weeks. Dropped caffein. Carbonation and sugar all at one. Now it's the 3rd week. I think it's going to make my preOp diet so much easier (fingers crossed). Hope everyone had a successful journey:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
