Due to my weight I have high blood pressure and sleep apnea. My blood pressure is under control due to medicine. The high BP wasn't the wake up call for me that I have to do something about my weight. But, a few months ago I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and have been using the c-pap machine. Every night when I put the mask on I get mad at myself! Mad that I got myself into the position where I have to wear it! But I look forward to getting the lap band and one day maybe not having to wear it. My sleep apnea is very mild. Has anyone been successful in getting rid of their sleep apnea from weight loss? How long/ how much weight off did it take you? I know everyone is different.

i had mild (didnt know i had it until it was part of my pre op's)

i no longer use the cpac......however, i have known (thin) people who use it..so dont think its only from being overweight...it could be but am not a dr so i cannot answer as to why... but try not to focus energy on things you cant fix (the past)... you have control of the future...

Yes, I had sleep apnea. I didn't have a CPAP machine because I refused to use it (I never claimed that was a smart decision, btw). There was no way I could sleep with that thing on my face.

Now, I don't have a sleep apnea anymore. In fact, I don't even snore anymore at all. I'm actually a silent sleeper!

Oh I had elevated blood pressure as well, but that's now normal too.

CarolinaGirl thanks! You are always so positive, I love reading your replies. You are right, focusing on the past will not do anything!

Mis That is awesome, congratulations! Wearing the mask sucks! Lol I do cheat every once in a while and not wear it but then I feel like crap the next day, so it's not worth it to me. I would be so happy to not have to wear that dumb mask anymore! Or even to not take BP medicine anymore! The surgeon I'm talking to claims to have in the 90% range of successfully getting people off of their CPAP machine, I just love to put faces with statistics.

Thanks for the replies, you guys are awesome!

I am still wearing my cpap at night however a couple of times I have fallen asleep without it my Wife told me I wasn't snoring so while I am not yet ready to give it up I am seeing improvement. I hate falling asleep without it as I am usually tired the next day as well.

My cousin who is 27 is 6 ft tall and weighs 180lbs overall very good health but he has severe sleep apnea. So as CG stated sleep apnea can affect all shapes and sizes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
