Hello Everyone;I am Judy L. and am schedualed for Lap Banding this Monday 4/17. I am excited and anxious.I think I was Ok until my final visit with My Dr. Yesterday and all the Consent-Signing and all. I am just a bit overwhelmed.

I am about 80 pounds overweight and have been heavy most of my life. I blame my Mom feeding me goodies but in fact it was and is my own fault.I have been researching this for over a year and have had many stumbling blocks with Insurance companies and Doctors but finally I am almost there.I feel like I've been given a second chance to get healthy--like someone handed me a tool and said this will help. I just wish I could get rid of some of this anxiety.I am not afraid of the discomfort involved-I guess I am afraid of failing. Any suggestions or success stories would be very much appreciated. I think you guys are great for the support and encouragement you give to each other. Judy:eek:

Hiyas Judy and welcome to LBT!

We were all in your shoes once.. nervous, scared, excited, etc. It's very normal. And this tool is fantastic! I was banded on Jan 9th and including my pre-op diet I've lost 57 pounds. I love my band!

Best wishes for an easy surgery, speedy recovery and successful weight loss journey!

Shackdog is also getting his band on Monday!

The best relaxation technique that I used, is thinking about all the things that you will be able to do, that you can't do now! Stepping on a train, and being able to sit down on a three bench seat without people looking at you in horror, going to the frozen food section in the supermarket to pick up your "frozen yogurt" when prior to this, you migh hear the "tsk" sound behind you, going to any department store, no matter where it is, and finding you size on the rack, walking up the stairs without getting winded, just plain tying your shoes, walking past a display window, not stopping to look at what is in the window but looking at your own reflection!Contacting old friends, becuase you were afraid of how you looked...and of course, the most important, just living your life!!!! Good luck!!!!

Leenie;Never really thought much about all those things!

I know iI am the picture TAKER so I will not have to see myself in them!Hopefully that will change. Also I want to wear jeans that zip and button instead of my elastic waist pants!!!!And one more thing--want to tell my THIN boss a few choice words after I lose weight. Shes the one who told me surgery is stupid--"The best exercise you can do is push yourself away from the Table". Thanks for the encouragement!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
