FunnyDuddies 6 Posted April 13, 2006 We don't have great credit either, so we saved money and are having the surgery in Mexico. Cost for me is 9100 and includes everything, even airfare.
*susan* 1,709 Posted April 13, 2006 Hi Christy, I am in the same boat as you. However, we have a ton of equity in our home. If you own a home, you can get a home equity loan or refinance it. We are refinancing it and cashing out for the cost of the surgery.
CMI1010 0 Posted April 13, 2006 Well I just bought my house but I put 20% down which is enough to cover the surgery but I don't know if anyone will want to refinance me for the entire amount of the house?
DOC 0 Posted April 13, 2006 Creative is the key word! Where there is a will, there is a way..... I took the money out of my 401k. My husband is a tax man and he is putting it in our tax return this year as unreiumbursed medical expenses. It was SOOOOO worth it! I was scared because what would happen if we took the money out and I proceeded to eat my way through my band? Well, I must have been ready because I have lost 46 lbs and I go to the gym 4 times a week! Good luck. I hope you find your way to your solution.............. DrewsLou 3 Posted April 13, 2006 We had half in savings and the other half we took out a loan against my husbands car (which was already paid for). It was the best way for us to come up with the cash.
fiveholts714 0 Posted April 14, 2006 My dha nd I both took out medical reimbursement plans through our employers for a total of $10,000. I had the surgery in Mexico and paid $8300 for everything. Both of our employers use the debit mastercard for the medical programs so i paid in advance using those. So when I got to Mexico I had paid for 100% of everything. Bensmum1109 0 Posted April 14, 2006 Christy, PM me. I am in the mortgage business, and though I do not work directly with customers (I work with brokers), with a little bit of info from you I can tell you if a bank will refinance you to get the money you need for your band. I may even be able to refer you to someone in your area, depending on where you are.
