well, cheating is only hurting yourself. so dont do it again :)

as long as you get right back on the right track, i am sure you will be fine. the pre diet it to shrink your liver so the dr can operate on you.

but its very important to stay on the diets the dr advises you. esp after surgery. eating too soon after surgery could cause harm to you..

yes its hard and yes it is tough but its worth it.

you are worth it..best of luck

Why? Just why? Until you know the answer, this will continue to happen t you along your journey. It takes a lot of energy to analyze ourselves and understand out eating patterns. Good luck with yours!

First, if we where that great with food we would all would not have or considered having weight loss surgery. Changing your food habits and your relationship with food takes time. If you slip up, beware of it and start over again. It will be ok, have been there a few times through my journey (1 year post op) and keep learning from each time.

Yes, I believe we all understand that we had issues with eating and poor choices in that area...but the process of change does need to begin at some point. No one can be perfect, however if we don't make a commitment early on during this journey, then it does become more difficult to loose the bad habits.

Certainly the pre and post op times are the most difficult...diet compliance does come with a "restart button"...we just have to try not to use it too often.

Just my opinion...others mileage may vary...

Today was rough for me too. I'm almost 3 weeks post op. I had an extremely nagging craving for a hamburger and a milkshake today. Instead of caving in and rationalizing like I normally would (I work hard so I deserve this, it's early in the day, I'll get back on track tomorrow, etc), I prayed for the strength to resist. I drank as much Water as I could hold, and instead of having that milkshake, I had a serving of plain greek yogurt with a packet of Truvia and a dash of vanilla, and that helped with the milkshake craving (ice cream has always been one of my weaknesses). Some days are better than others, but Sojourner is right: We DO have to make an early commitment and stick to it. Otherwise, every day will end up being a restart day. I'm considering joining Overeaters Anonymous to help me work through some of my issues. Good luck.

In all reality cheating is only hurting you. You have to want this with all your heart. The time spent on the pre op and post op is only a small portion out of your life. It's hard but cheating only makes you feel bad. We all can say it's okay it's only once get back on track but learning that life is not about having a relationship with food needs to start now. Why do something that you have to feel guilty over after you do it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
