If you are not staying overnight I don't believe you need much! I did take everyones advice and bring chapstick...you will definitely need that. Also, maybe a small travel pillow for your stomach for the drive home. I went ahead and brought my Gas X strips with me and started on them when I got out. Loose fitting clothes and shoes to slip into! That's literally all I brought. :)

I would bring all the above mentioned but I hardly used any of it! I must of thought I was going on vacation over night but my experience and my room mates was the same that we felt terrible!!! I just wanted to sleep! I asked the nurse If I was suppose to walk around and she said she doesn't push the patients to walk! And to boot my hospital REFUSED to let us drink until about 30 mins before I was released ! I was allowed to swab my mouth!!!! I know everyone was different but I couldn't wait to leave!!! The nurses were loud!! The room was cold and they came every hour to check vitals! I really hope you have a better experience!!! I ran into my hospital roomie at the doctors office and I asked her about her experience and she felt the same. No tv just sleep! Good luck to you!!!!!!!

Loose clothes, slip on tennis shoes, and a pillow and blanket for the ride home. Mine was outpatient so I was only there a few hours. If you stay overnight the hospital will supply you with a toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, slipper socks, and a robe, ect.. The more you bring the bigger the pain of trying to remember it all when you leave.

I packed an overnite bag, but was doing well enough that evening that the doctor let me go home the same day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
