I'm schedules for my surgery 1/17. I'm trying to get a list together of things I can't do :) according to my calculations I can't: cook, clean, do laundry, fix broken appliances, grocery shop, lift children, work, be a taxi driver. Is there anything I'm missing??? :)

Actually, the only thing you physically can't do right after surgery is lift anything (my doctor said nothing over 10 pounds, yours may have a different weight limit) and you can't drive until you're off pain meds.

Otherwise, as soon as you feel up to it, then everything else you can do. I had my surgery on a Friday and by the following Wednesday I was back to my normal routine, so not even a full week. I just had to have others carry anything over 10 pounds until my 4 week check-up.

But of course, listen to your doctor's specific instructions, this is just my experience.

Best wishes :)

this made me smile as i recall being there.

being the different one, i will say make a different list of your cans..(what you can do) and some cans are positive attitudes, listening to your body and doctor and accepting that at the beginning to let the band heal..imagine how terrific you will be this time next year

congrats on your surgery thursday :)

My instructions were the same as Missy's. I questions also about working out and I was told ofcourse no weight lifting for 4 weeks, no ab excercise for 4-6 weeks. I was told I could get back on the treadmill or elliptical as soon as I felt up to it.

Your body will tell you a lot of what is and isn't okay post op. But, honestly my lapband purcedure was a lot less painful and difficult than my gallbladder surgery.

Well that's my "pretend" list! I'm going to let my family wiggle for a day or two thinking they have all of this to do.

I do plan on returning to work on Monday. What's everyone's thoughts on that?

Oh, Healthy, you are a bad girl! Enjoy the rest, tho'. I am like others. you can do most of the stuff you used to do. You shouldn't lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk. If you have any babies, you won't be able to lift them. I waited to drive until I felt comfortable. I do remember going to church on Sunday and having to have someone drive me. It was 2 days following my surgery. I was able to even sing in the choir! Rest but remember that you need to move, too! best wishes on your upcoming surgery, Karen

I am guessing this is a tongue in cheek post and you are milking this for all its worth and I say good for you! What they dont know wont hurt them!

That said other than lifting more than 10 lbs for few weeks I had no restrictions. My surgery was on a Thursday and I returned to my desk job on Tuesday for 2 half days then back at full speed on Thursday. It took me about 2 weeks to get my energy back to normal.

Best wishes for a successfull surgery and an even more supportive family!

Ditto the others on restrictions. No lifting over 10 pounds and no an exercises. I was driving the next day but I never took any of the pain meds. I was also back to work at a desk job 4 days after my surgery. But everyone is different. If you need time to heal then take it. If you are good to go then have at it. Good luck!!!

Milk it girlfriend! But DO follow post-op instructions about eating! Most important for healing.

This post made me smile! Love your sense of humor. :)

I work out of my home so there was not an office to go back to...necessarily. I can honestly say I'm just now feeling more "back to normal" and I had my surgery on 12/27. It wasn't the driving or the not lifting heavy things...or even the eating restrictions. I think I've handled those things fairly well. For me, it's been the bloating discomfort that has been the challenge. I highly recommend keeping a box of Gas-X strips in your purse.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
