Who has been super successful?

Recommended Posts

Sunshine, thank you for posting this question, I too was wondering what our lapband family has had the best success with….Low carb? Low Cal? smaller portions? Exercise a lot ? OCC? Little or never? I was too tight and had a small unfill and now I have little restriction, so until I can afford to get another fill, I started a very strict exercise regime and low carb diet, crappy thing is I have actually gained I am only 16 days into it and after reading this I am thinking that maybe calorie count might be the way to go…….

And interms of your question it was all of the above. Exercise, fills, low carb, high protien, counting calories and knowing how many calories keep u full... my regimine was between 70-85 g protien, no more than 5 percent fat... 4g or more Fiber on carbs. And my calories were 750-1000

I could write a book about how to succeed with the band, including what and how to eat. As a matter of fact, I DID write a book about that, and I'd be happy to tell you more about it, but right now I want to say that there is no single way to succeed at weight loss with the band. No single food plan, no single exercise plan...because we're all unique individuals who have to figure out what works best for each of us...and that may change as we advance towards our weight goal. If you're a post-op and your surgeon or dietitian didn't give you a food/snack plan to follow, ask for it. If you're a pre-op wondering what a bandster eats, you'll find the answers extremely varied.

One of the ways you can get ideas of what other people are eating each day is to post a daily "What are you eating today?" thread. If you had done that today, my answer would have been as follows:

B: Protein latte

S: egg beaters scrambled with chopped scallion, sugar snap peas, and cheese

S: cinnamon-oat Breakfast cookie

L: eggplant & Tomato salad w/ Havarti cheese

S: popcorn

S: raw sugar snap peas

D: sesame-orange shrimp, braised cabbage

S: to be determined

I should add that I have to eat 8+ times a day in order to manage some unwanted consequences of my 2012 revision from the band to the sleeve. It may look like I eat an awful lot, but each meal or snack is very, very small - maybe 3-4 bites each.

Thanx everyone! Im following south beach diet. Going back to the gym today. All good answers. There is an adjustment phase with each fill.... im learning :) i know that bread is long gone after my next fill. I think 7 cc is as far as i can tolerate. i know, any weightloss is an accomplishment. If the band helps me loose 25 lbs and thats it, then it was worth it. Any woman with PCOS can understand that... thanx again happy new year everyone

My name is Lynda, I had the lap band surgery in 2008, best decision I ever made, I was 240lbs the day of my surgery, I am 5' 7" and 3/4, so rounded to 5'8", lol, I was so miserable, I have lost 120lbs, which was too much, I actually had my band loosened so I could gain weight, my dr said I was in a very small percentage of a VERY successful weightloss with the band, I was equal to loosing weight as a gastric bypass patient, I was 120 to 125 for 3 years, but had a hard time with keeping food down which is signs of a too tight of a band, but I just thought it was tight because it needed to loosen as I lost weight,. but time passed and I just needed to PUT weight on instead of loose it, I am currently at 130 and I am extremly happy with this weight, I dont look like im from a concentration camp, which is what my hubby told me,,,grrrr!!!! rudo!! I love my band, and I wouldnt change it for anything.

Another great tip I got is to say the alphabet in your head while u are chewing ur food with each bite. I can tolerate all meats now and I dont get stuck as much any more. I hope this helps anyone having trouble with their band.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
