How do you feel 5 days after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Well' date=' guys, I had surgery yesterday and I feel like crap. Didn't quite expect to be in this much pain. Drinking is very difficult. I just need someone to tell me that it gets better and soon.[/quote']

I am 1 week out today and I had to smile when I read your post because I thought the same thing when I was at your stage. It gets a little easier each day. Still some discomfort to remind me it's in there, but otherwise I'm feeling more & more like myself (minus some steady diarrhea)

I'm 6 days post op, very minimal pain but decided to go shopping with my mum. Four hours later and I'm exhausted...off for a nap :)

That's normal. I am on day 8 and feel more energized and not swollen. Every day is a little better than the last!

Hope,

I had a similar circumstance. We had a birthday party 4 days after my surgery. We went but left about an hour later. I was just so uncomfortable. The incisions were not the issue, it was the bloating that made me so uncomfortable. I could hardly stand to have my jeans and bra on that long.

It's day 5 and I still feel crap. I ate some mushroom Soup on day 4 that badly agreed with me. I'm back to just liquids now.

Still really swollen and bloated. Haven't moved out of bed all day.

The good news is I've lost 24lbs since I started the pre-op diet on the 1st Jan

Sorry to hear your not feeling well. Try to drink Water and keep hydrated! It will pass! Congrats on your weight loss though!

It's been awhile but I remember my main discomfort was feeling very bloated. I had read back then to take some GasX strips and that really really helped.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
