Hello all,

I am newly banded as of January 11th. I am still recovering. Not really hungry at all and making myself drink when I am supposed to. I have gone through every emotion I think I could so far. Today is only the 3rd day out so I am hopeful it will get easier. I miss food. I can deal without it but I would really like to chew something. I am tired of drinking broth.

I research all the weight loss surgeries for the past five years or more. I am happy that I finally have taken the leap to do this. I am just hoping that I am strong enough.

I just wanted to say hello and wish everyone great success with their bands.

WELCOME AND A MASSIVE CONGRATS :-D

I was banded 5 months ago and i can honesty say it has been the best decision I have ever made for myself.

After coming out of surgery and getting home I was finding it a struggle to drink my liquids all day everyday for 2 weeks. I didn't think I would be able to do it but I kept in mind that I couldn't afford for anything to happen and jeopardize the life changing choice I had made. I kept myself occupied by reading, watching my favorite movies and well doing my favorite pass time- sleep :-D

It is worth it, you are strong enough to do it- you made a life changing decision like everyone else here and that takes strength!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

P.S- when you get to purée you will think you've gone to heaven :-) hang in there x

Hi Leslie! I was also banded on 1/11 and have finally started to feel hungry today. I'm finding it hard to finish my shakes or drink enough Water, but I'm trying hard. I wish you well in your journey! Keep in touch. :)

Welcome to the forum Leslie and congratulations on your banding.

Every day will get better and better. Being you're on day 3 you should be through the worst part.

I remember feeling like I was hit by a bus those first few day. Once the swelling goes down, drinking will be easier.

What is your post op diet consist of? I had 3 days clear Fluid, 30 days full fluids, 1 wk mushies. Those were the longest days as far as eating went, but it is worth it.

I wish you the best on your journey. Post often.

My post op diet is 2 weeks clear, 2 weeks full, then on to the mushy stuff for 2 weeks. I also had the plication done at the same time so i have to be really careful not to put too much in at once. Once the sutures heal in 2 weeks I should be able to move on to fuller liquids.

i do hope the worst is over. I have not had any of my pain meds today. i tend to not like them. I might take a dose at bedtime. I am having a hard time deciding if I am in pain or hungry. For instance, I just almost gave in to take some meds but my 14 yr old made me some Decaf hot tea. As soon as the warm hit me the pain went away.

Has anyone else had that? Warm makes you feel better?

And Steph04 that is awesome that we were banded same day. Good luck in your journey! Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Yes, that was one of the things that help me. I drank a lot of Chai Decaf tea and SF hot chocolate and I found that soothing.

That's pretty good that you had Plication too and not taking any pain meds, good for you.

I have a friend on here, CarolinaGirl, who had plication too and she is doing very well.

She's on a lot during the day, so keep an eye out for her.

That is awesome that your friend also had the plication. I have not talked to many who have. I would love to see how she is doing. I am still very scared. I needed this surgery badly but I am still scared.

I am glad to have found this board. The stories here are giving me hope. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
