First fill.... So glad its over

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill today. It wasn't they smooth. Dr couldn't find port and was pushing around a lot. Said he was trying to break up scar tissue. 4 tries later I got a 4 cc fill. From your experiences is it this bad each fill or does it get easier?

Wow 4cc at one time! Thats more than I usually get, I only get 1 or 2 at a time... funny how different doctors are. I think it will go easier for you next time. My doctor doesn't numb it at all, just goes in for the goods! I did have a different doctor one day do it and she was worse, numbed it but I think that made it worse, i was bruised and sore. Hopefully it will be much easier for you next time!! Good Luck on your next fill!

The doctor didn't numb it. I think I will be bruised since I usually bruise easy. In glad in a way it was 4cc bc I'm semi traumatized for next time.

I go in for my first fill on 2/1/13.. I can feel my band, but can't feel my port.. I know where it is at because of the bruising after surgery.

My first fill was a bad experience also. She couldn't find the port and was poking around in there, I can feel the needle hitting the port. Ugh.. The 2nd one was worse, she would whisper to herself, what the hell? it was that bad, stuck me 4 times.. then noticed my knee's where not flat, I flattened them and they it worked, 3rd time was a charm!

I also got my first fill yesterday. My port is right under the skin and cam be felt easily but it was flipped over AND sideways. She had to really manipulate it to try to flip it, which hurt bad. They try not to use lidocaine but will if necessary. She finally dis and that was much better. Had to stick me twice. Like someone else said, it's important to lay flat with your knees down. Mine is pretty sore today but I'm sure it won't last.

Ouch...sorry to hear that. I had my first fill on Monday (1/14/13) and the doctor added 1 cc. She wasn't sure of the location of my port due to scar tissue. Therefore, she used some type of x-ray machine to mark the port location spot. The doctor also gave me a shot to numb the area so I didn't feel a thing.

Next time you go for a fill, you should ask the doctor to numb it first.

I agree with Jcrisp0407, I'd ask to have the site numbed ahead of time too.

I've never had problems with my fills, however I noticed the smaller I get the easier my fills get. It used to be I had to lay down and lift my legs (no easy task for a big girl, btw) and he'd push around to find the port. Now, all I do is lay down, he barely touches my stomach because he can almost immediately feel it, and the fill is over in seconds. No lifting my legs, no pushing, and no discomfort.

Hang in there, hopefully it gets easier for you too.

My first fill went really easy. No numbing one shot and got it.

Like everything else on this journey, everyone is different, so newbies waiting for your first fill, try not to worry.

I got my first fill today and they gave me an x ray to find my port since it was my first time. She told me that she wanted to make sure my first time went smoothly and it did. I did get numbed and I'm feeling fine. Good luck next time!

Most likely it is your port you're feeling. I haven't talk to anyone that can feel their band. Where the port is, is the biggest incision. Matter of fact, there is no incision over band, even with hernia repair.

Try not to worry about first fill, mine went very easy, Dr got it the first stick, no numbing, no big deal.

I also had my first fill yesterday, it went very well. He numbed me and found my port right away only one stick. I was pretty nervous going in but it was really no big deal. I hope it gets better for you :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
